Hi all,
I'm a new user of Bet Angel and I'm struggling with creating a rule. My aim is to back any horse in a market as close to starting price as possible only if if the price is 1.30 and lower. Also, I'd like to lay any horse (also at BSP) that is priced at between 1.31 and 2.00.

Do I need to add two fixed price conditions (one for back and one for lay) to the same rule, or do I need to add one condition each to separate rules (two) in the same file?

Thanks

Have you tried both ways? You will find a single rule cannot be both back and lay.

So you will need to add two rules to the same rules file.

You can do this by clicking on the green '+' button in the top left corner of the rules editor. This is normal and you can add as many rules as you like to the same rules file.

You will also find there is no 'bet at BSP' option. So you will need to place the bets as close to the start time of the event as possible.

A trick for you - You can get BSP if you place the bets so they deliberately will not get matched prior to the off and apply a 'Take SP All' rule in the rules file to fire just prior to the start. But you cannot apply a condition regarding the BSP as this is not known until after the event has started.

Thanks 6thSense.
I've edited my file as you've kindly instructed (not the Take BSP part - I'll look at that once I've got the first part correct!). The attached screenshot gives an overview of what I've done. You'll see I have two single rules added to the saved file. One a 'Place Back Bet' rule type containing a place back fixed odds condition of less than 1.31. The other a 'Place Lay bet' rule type contains two place lay fixed odds conditions - one greater than 1.30, the other less than 2.0.
All 'Applies to' on the General tab is set to 'By position (1)' and the Fixed odds conditions are set to 'Current (in position1)' for both rules.
I've set the Parameter tabs on both files to 'Best Market price'.
I haven't tried this in practice mode yet but does this all look ok to you please?
Thanks & regards

Easy to do in rules. As 6th sense says, you need one rules for the backs and another for the lay. Just do it for each selection

Word of warning, though. It aint this simple. Horses with starting or inplay odds below 1.3 won't always win. So you'll need to factor in 100% losses of your stake. And any starting backs below 1.3 will almost certainly drift out to evens for a wee while in the race - ie, your "safe" back (your rule 1) will be layued higher (your rule 2) and lock in a loss.

Just seen your screenshot. Like I said, you'll need to button down your rules one-by-one. ie, by selection 1, then again by selection 2 etc.

Otherwise if there are two horses in the closing stages, and you only action the favourite, you'll miss laying both.

Good luck!

Thanks for your help Kelpie.
I'm betting at a slightly different (some would say strange!) angle. I won't got into detail but I'm looking a profit in the long term so if the horse loses, it loses.
To confirm, am I ok to add both back & lay (condition) rules to the same file or do I need completely separate files for each? To clarify, when I mention 'rule', I'm referring to each set of 'General - Parameter - condition' tabs. When I talk about the file, I mean the specifically named file that you can create that contains one or more rules.
Thanks & regards
