Hello Everyone
I am not new to Bet Angel or Betfair, but I found a website that made me wonder if Guys at these Based Betting Exchanges make money, and if so, How.
I will tell all if interest is shown, But it did open my eyes to a new world.

I had a trial run with SIS and Turf TV

Very Interesting

what I'd really like is a comparison of betfairs ATR feed against an SIS feed. I get the feeling that there isn't a huge difference.

What i think he means is one of those shops like in Highgate London, where if you wish to play in running, i had a go once yes, the pichures are alot faster, didnt like the software they used and the entry (booking) is way to expensive, it is possible to have SIS or Turf TV in ur house office etc but the last quote i had was £10,565 for SIS + monthly suscriptions and £9675 for the Turf option, at the momment i just use Virgin media with both ATR and Racing UK, only for horse loading as i pre race trade only

I went to one in Burnley run by a really nice guy.
You can make money from it, but you still need the knack of being able to read a race.
Apparently there is also one on Cardiff that is very popular (John Lovell betting Exchange) - anyone visited that one?

Reading a race is everything. I liken it to Footballers. When ever Paul Scholes plays for Man Utd he has more time than anyone else. He is the oldest and slowest on the pitch. But his brain and ability to analyse the situation and options available to him open up the pitch.
In play betting is the same. fast pictures can make up for lack of skill to a point. But if you know what you're doing your brain can trigger the bet before someone how relies on fast pictures.

I think you're right Mugs. People like yourself and Jolly perhaps...but it just wasn't my bag. (I was at aintree a few weeks ago and watching the odds trading at sub 1.05...and I still didnt have a clue as to who was going to win!)
Quite often the in play boys pick up to three/four horses and still make enough to have a decent P&L at the end of the day

Like everything else; there's no easy money anymore

Hello
Sorry for the late reply, Yes I attended a free training day at the John Lovell Exchange in Cardiff.

I read about it in Gary Wiltshere's book, so I called them up.
I booked in a day and got there by 11-30, steve the guy who actually runs the bookies on site told me that James Lovell (The elder of the late Johns sons)was going to show me how to trade in running.

Really excited , James came in, a nice guy who obviously knows his stuff, he went through everything that they do in the trading room. The guys started arriving 30 mins before the first race, I reckon there was about 20 guys in and what was obvious was that all of them were in the 20 to 35 age group.

On a learning day I had to sit outside of the room to practice, James uses the other software software but also gave glowing reports of Bet Angel, I was told that they use other software as it's cheaper and the runners colours are bigger and more of an advantage in running.
James set the settings for me and showed me the time difference between SIS and Turf compared to Racing UK and At The Races, it is about 4 seconds. These guys are not looking to lay but to back what they consider to be the winner from watching the faster pictures.

These guys are trading with large money and after watching the first couple of races I could see the advantage they have trading this way, they just back in smaller lots quickly, you really have to be in the shop to see the action.
I much prefer the trading that we do before the off, this exchange way is frightening, where they score is purely the speed of the pictures, I watched races normally and the exchanges way, if you have the bottle then fine, not for me.

James told me that the guys in the trading room pay £20 per day, and it was full at present, the 2 Lovell brothers James and David both trade the same way as well and swear by the in running game.
All in all really nice people and very clever, James is the boss and before the days racing started he was being relayed Guineas bets from the manager for big money, while I was sitting next to him.

All in all it was quite an experience but it is not for me, worth going, for sure, but too hairy for me, I'm sure the safer option is to trade before in play.

One notable thing was that Lingfield was one of the meetings and when the races for this meeting came up the traders all went outside, James told me they never trade at Lingfield and Wolverhampton, he told me that the players are at the these tracks and they are even quicker then them snapping up the prices.

Anything you want to ask please go ahead I have probably forgotten things.

Gents I think that is a fair post by Dawlish and thanks for posting.

Just for the record; I have nothing to do with any exchange shops but I know that I compete with them each and every day, hence my interest.
By the way; re the comments on Wolv and Lingfield.
I know via Jolly (?) that Wolv has live pics in the hotel that is on course and a number of traders book in solely to trade.
I was recently at Lingfield and I was chatting to on on course bookie and he told me that one of the suites on track was rented out each meeting by traders (think it was the pavilion suite?)

If you check my previous posts on here, you will see that I never trade Lingfield in running on auto as it is a net negative course for me.
