David Beckham to retire

Football, Soccer - whatever you call it. It is the beautiful game.

I always remember hating him when he got sent off against Argentina then wanting his babies when he scored that free kick against Greece!

Have to say I really like the guy think he deserves a knighthood more than most of the people who get them.

I remember being at Wembley and watching England v Croatia when we got knocked out. He at least made the effort of going round thanking the fans while every other player couldn't get down the tunnel quick enough.

Also doubt many other footballers would stop to help a broken down motorist:

OK, I'm going to be totally honest about this

IMO, Beckham is the most overrated player I have EVER seen

a top player, its funny how a so called over rated player gets to play for Man Utd, And Real Madrid and hold down a first team place and be first on the team sheet. In trophy winning teams at every club hes been at. I guess it shows how little those who stay at one club too scared to try and make it elsewhere, know of football.

I say that, because after watching at least 200 of his games, both for club & country, I'd say only 10% he looked as great as his image

Great crossed of the ball. Not a great player.

I would agree 100%.

If you compare his contribution in the Premier League with that of Frank Lampard, you will see that Frank was twice as good a player as David Beckham.

Until Lampard gets some perfume named after him, he could never consider himself as good as Beckham ;)

Could be something to do with the fact that he's a good looking guy who's married to a famous musician (I use that word loosely) - that can sell a lot of merchandise. :)

I seem to remember Alan Hansen once saying that Beckham wouldn't make the list of the top 100 greatest ever English players.

Think you're all being too harsh and focusing on his limitations when he had some elite attributes.
