When did Beckham say he was the best player in the world ? or top 10 or 100 even for that matter :? .

He made allot of money off the pitch through sponsorship deals yes , but he had to be good enough in the first place to get himself to the point where he was marketable to them.

If anything he should be applauded for maximise his potential, not many people manage that.

Best player no, richest maybe :D

I'll give Beckham this - he comes across as a hard worker and as a genuinely nice bloke.

But I suspect that when he looks back at his career, he might wonder how good he might have been if he hadn't let Posh distract him from football. I think one of the things that frustrated Fergie about Beckham was that he went from being a young man obsessed with football to being a male model/global superstar, taking his focus away from football.

Maybe, but at least he didn't go down the Gazza / George Best route :) .

That's the difference to me i think an
overachiever rather than an underachiever,
A good role model and well done to him i say .

How can this be if he is a FAKE.

Do you have any evidence whatsoever that he's a fake?

I think someone has a bad case of the green eyed monster! :)

Because his skill set is no better than Southampton player Terry Paine.

Terry Paine - England 19 caps
David Beckham - England 115 caps

Does not make any sense what so ever...

But we're not talking about his skills as a footballer - we're talking about him as a person - and you called him a fake.

As for his football performances for England, I'll give him this: he was brilliant at crosses and set pieces, and he worked his balls off for his country, which is more than can be said for some of his England colleagues. Who would you have played in his position instead of him? It's not like we had a Ronaldino or a Zidane who was being kept on the bench because of Beckham...

When Becks was with Galaxy they came to Sydney for a series of games in Oz. They stayed at our hotel and security was obviously full-on. Guys like Landon Donovan and Kobi Jones just wandered around the place as they pleased, but Becks was forced to come and go via a fleet of cars thru the Loading Dock.
After a night out at a Sydney nightclub, Becks came back at about 3am and entered thru the loading dock where a group of about a dozen fans had camped outside hoping to get a glimpse.
Becks got out of the car after the roller shutter came down and walked back up to a side door, much to the chagrin of his security. He went outside, signed memorabilia, got some pictures taken and went off to bed, leaving a dozen truly starstruck fans with a great memory.
Seems that was quintessential Becks...

He lives a lifestyle of a superstar. So what.

It's all built on the lie - that he was a superstar football player.

An illusion, possibly - a lie, no.

Maybe you would have turned down the change to play for Man U, telling Sir Alex that you were not good enough to make the starting 11, but I don't think we can criticize Beckham for not doing so...

I'm just telling you the truth - if you choose not to see it, that's your choice.

You will never be a good trader, because you don't have an open mind and are too easy led by your belief system.

You probably believe in God as well.

Jeff could just as easily say the same about you. You have a different opinion to someone else, it doesn't make one opinion more valid than another in what is a very subjective judgement - a players ability.

Well in that case he's a overachiever then,
how can you criticize anyone for that ?

Maybe he should have turned down all the sponsorship deals and gone and played in League 2 instead
