Today marks the first day of the Dubai Racing Carnival and also the opening of the new Dubai flagship racecourse Meydan.

The racecard is very good and certainly will throw-up some opportunities. Let's hope the volume is good although looking at the TV schedule the last three races will probably have better volume.

The goods news it is on the box (RAC UK & ATR).

I've been lucky enough to visit Dubai 4 times in the past 10 years and it has seen dramatic growth (not without it's problems). It really is unlike anywhere else I have visited and certainly worth a trip. The climate at this time of the year is perfect and it has got me thinking why I am not there

Looking forward to it. Never earned a fortune at Nad al Sheba but it always added to the day, should be interesting to see how active the markets are.

Also it is on Sky Sports 1 as it will be every week.

I agree Dubai is a crazy place - my highlight of being there was lunch at the top of the Burj Al Arab with no other than Sheikh Mohammed himself!!!!

When we went there we ended up in the Rattlesnake club but Sheikh Mohammed was nowhere to be seen.Plenty of trainers & Jockeys though ;)

On the racing front though,NAS was a great track & had good facilities so shame to see it go so quickly but Meydan looks fantastic.
With the AW track being Tapeta it should ride more like Lingfield & the turf horses should adjust better than at NAS as that was deeper than Southwell.Reports from Fallon & Dettori from the trials was that it rides well & should be fair but my feeling is that it may suit front runners who get an uncontested lead & kick off the bend.Run in is only 2F so any IR players be aware of that.

Good luck all
Ben

Whoops, missed the feature race. Any views?

I didn't find the rest very interesting but was looking forward to trying again on the feature race.

Markets are a bit weak but to be expected with it being the first day on the new surface. Managed to mess the one before the feature up by ending up i/r :o Camera angle wasn't the best so thought there were more to load than there were! As ever horse went off in front to make all. Thankfully I bailed immediately and got out for a small red. Lesson learnt and was out with plenty of time on the next!

Did OK on the last, nice move on the favourite. There are some pictures on the BBC website, pretty spectacular. I doubt you could get a project like this off the ground in the EU.

I note they couldn't / didn't namecheck Bart Cummings. Even I know who he is despite not knowing much about Aussie racing.
