Good luck this week!
Some numbers for comparison: -
Last year Royal Ascot had matched bet turnover at post time of £77.5m. That's an average of just short of £2.6m a race. The biggest race turnover over £12.5m and the smallest £1.2m. Last years racing was distorded by two factors, namely Black Caviar and Frankel. Those two races accounted for £19m of that £77.5m!
If you look at prior years though, the numbers are still pretty high, 2011 was £71m, 2010 - £49.8m, 2009 - £60.5m. 2010 is a curious number, but I did check it and it was correct. Frankel and So You Think distorted volumes in 2011.
If we rebase all the numbers to strip out the effects of very short priced favourites you end up with a clearer picture of underlying liquidity. It was strong in 2009, weak in 2010, fantastic in 2011 and down a bit last year. That pretty much equates to how it has traded.
Royal Ascot 2013
For 13.30 race, I'm looking for a back-lay on Elusive Kate. She's at big odds, she's the only other group 1 winner in the race and she has a string of good efforts to her name. She's also expected to lead out. Should double my money In-Play at least. Back at 10, lay at 5, then look to lay again if she puts in a strong challenge and falls below 2.
In the 14.45 race, I like Magician for a speculative back-lay In-Play. Magician is by a top trainer who knows how to win them, is on the up and has been very impressive. Is expected to get back in the running then come late with a big run. Look to back over 6 In-Play.

Now for Magician in the 14.45. Magician is a back-marker, look for it to get back in-running then come home like a steam train. I'm backing at 6 or above In-Play.
Zenyatta is back! Back on my game, back on top, the In-Play master is back! #WINNING

its good to have you back,,,
I don't know if you guys have noticed but there seems to be a non running horse with someone on its back walking around behing the stalls each time.... could be so easy to get caught in play on these races if you just glance at the screen and think that the horse that is milling around a few metres from the stalls is a runner.

I gave up. Chuck 20 quid in 3 ticks away and the market comes steaming at you like any other day but with 10x more money. Give me none liquid markets any day of the week.Euler wrote:Fairly lacklustre day for me so far, doing ok, but nothing spectacular.
On a few of the ascot races the horses have been accompanied by an extra horse and rider (for whatever reason) who isn't a runner, yet he is often seen near the stalls...... thus it would be easy for people to think it is a runner that is still to load, even when all the other horses have loaded - easy to get caught in play.
