Hi,
I'm a newbie to BetAngel but am interested in the spreadsheet side of things being a keen VBA user. I just had a quick question. In the settings you can download additional excel data for horse races, one data stream is "Reduction Factor Percentage"...what is this value could you tell me please? I thought it was weight, but it doesn't seem so.
Many thanks and happy trading!
Steve
Reduction Factor Percentage?

Just a bit more info that may come in handy.
If a horse is priced >40 I believe there will be no reduction factor. Basically the percentage reduction factor is calculated by dividing the price into 100. So a horse at 40 would return a reduction of 100/40 = 2.5%
You must also remember that reduction will only apply if a new market cannot be formed. So imagine a horse that decided to drop the jockey and go for jolly around the course. If the horse is withdrawn early then a new market will be formed. You will notice the prices suddenly reappear at a much lower level.
If the horse is playing up whilst loading into the stalls then it may be withdrawn late. This means the race starts without it and so no new market will have been formed and a reduction factor applied.

Hi JollyGreen,
Thanks so much for clearing that up, it makes sense now, but then everything always seems simple once explained! Although I've owned Bet Angel a while ago in the past this is my firt proper attempt at taking it seriously as a small investment tool, first time on here also, so I am greatly inspired by your thorough and helpfull assistance.
Thank you,
Steve

No problem.
It sounds a bit tricky and my reply may even seem a little ambiguous. You will get a reduction applied if a horse <40 is withdrawn BUT, if they can form a new market the prices will drop according to the level of the reduction, OR if they cannot form a new market they will retrospectively reduce the returns by applying the reduction post race. The latter is always trickier to deal with because you are reliant on the price Betfair return and won't know it until they have applied it.
Just wanted to clear that up.
