I had this problem today and unforunately my internet provider seems to be crashing quite a lot lately.

I had open position and I have backup superslow internet on cellphone for this occassion but today neither of them worked.

How do you protect against these kind of things?

I have Automation rule in Guardian to green up at the post time. Would it work even when you internet is down?

I turned BA off ( in case any commands I put in my panic stored to cache) and literally ran to my neighborour and managed to close trade in-play for a loss (not really small but not really large either).

I am thinking of buying extra mobile internet from different provider but limit is 1 GB per month. Do you think it is enough for running BA as a backup for a month?

You could call the betfair bet hotline or whatever it's called on 0844 871 5000 (if you're in the UK, different number outside).... every time I've had trouble I've got through to them in just a few seconds and they've managed to sort out liabilities, just make sure you've got your TAN number handy, not just you account username. You can find this in the My Details part of My Account tab

1GB is not enough!

Thanks hgodden, I did not even think about calling BF. As a last resort its probably good solution.

LinusP, is it really not enough? I would not be using internet for nothing but BA with really large refresh rate (in matter of minutes), only as backup if anything went wrong and only then I would be pumping up refresh rate to tradable levels.

I have a set procedure if I lose my internet.

1. Laptop with 3G modem at the ready.
2. Telephone
3. Mobile phone in case the landline has also failed.
4. Prayer mat!!

I have my offset bets pre-set to ' take SP ' - not ideal for precise green up / red up positioning but allows me to at least offload a large slice of any liability.
