My favourite chart from yesterday and typical behaviour in several markets. We're going down everyone, now we're going back up.

Seems to be some huge drifts on favourites at evens. Is it anything to do with the weather?

I was watching and thinking this trade can't possibly move any further. I am sure that's a famous trading quote somewhere.

Yup, same thinking here.I was actually on the drift since 3.0 but got out wayyyy to early. Money spoofing at the back side made this only more confusing.

Markets feel nicely settled today, hope I haven't spoken too soon.

I was just thinking the same thing; I was talking to a fellow trader last week and i said that after the first three races, you tend to know how the day will pan out. >?

Interesting point. I am currently putting together a database of all the data I've ever recorded and while I am keen to look at similar races across time, I am starting to wonder whether the best information/signals are from the first hour of the markets.

I also noticed that in a recent blog that Peter W said he accelerates his risk into the market based on how the day unfolds.

Steve,
The strange thing is (and this shouldn't correlate), I used to email a full time trader who doesn't trade now because of PC, but I found (in general) when he had a good day using Pre Play I also had a good day "in play" and visa versa
Its almost as if betfair/ANother are switching something on and off and various days at will??
regards
Peter

@PeterLe

I think pre & post are different beasts and all I can assume is that the link between them was liquidity levels.

I know Betfair aren't popular among traders, but I don't believe they're switching anything. The days of struggle I think are either down to lack of liquidity and/or simply individuals trying to manipulate the market.

I'm completely with peter about something being turned off and on. I also think it gets turned on and off during the day and I can usually pinpoint when this is to within a couple of races. The market behaviour completely changes.

appologies a little bit off topic is anyone else having problems everything seems very sticky, bets taking a lot longer than usual to show on the ladder etc, feels to me here as though the whole thing could fall over.

Just trying to find out if its a local issue to me or not
