I have already written to Peter about this book but did not get a reply. So this is an open question to the forum. Basically, I am in the planning stages of writing a book that would cover Betfair, betting strategies and techniques, and would include a chapter on BetAngel. My question to Peter was, would I require permission from him to include BetAngel as it would also include screenshots of the BetAngel platform, etc. Can anyone offer me any advice on this matter?
Thanks!!
BetAngel in My Book about Betfair and Trading
Ok Oliver, for starters I'm going to be a little confrontational
Are you successful?
If not, you are clearly looking to make money from desperados wanting help, rather than do the job yourself - I hate that!
Secondly, If I was Peter Webb, I'd be very keen to know what you'd be putting in the book. It's his product, it's his business

have you got a publisher?
is this gonna be a puca book that could be bought in w.h.smiths, or just another ebook?
if it is the latter i reckon mr webb would be a bit silly giving you any form of permission to reproduce anything to do with ba, and have its and his reputation tarnished by an ebook (i don't believe he is silly)
i am sure the john o'neil saga as not been forgotten

Well I don't think that was the reply he was looking for.Are you successful? If not, you are clearly looking to make money from desperados wanting help, rather than do the job yourself - I hate that!

If Peter doesn't reply, you should seek legal advice. It's a grey area, because I bet if you were doing a blog post you probably wouldn't even bother to ask permission, but as it's a printed publication it feels like a different beast.
Personally, I think you should talk about "sports trading software" in general, rather than a specific product.

You could just set up a scenario in excel and use that screen shot.
The thing about a book is who is going to read it? Who are you? What's your background and experience?
One one will take any notice of that you say if you can't back it up. If you have come on here to drum up some support I fear you are wasting your time.

Thanks for your replies so far. Firstly, this would be a printed book, initially self-published, but hopefully be taken up by Amazon and other on-line outlets. I have been on Betfair since 2007 so I think I know what I am taking about. I am a professional Technical Writer and know how to write books, manuals, procedures, etc. It's a simple fact that without using BetAngel I would not win most of the time (I do lose like everybody else) but I have my strategies worked out and would have no problem sharing them with the general public.
I introduced Betfair to a 50-year-old chap a couple of months back and he had never heard of Betfair!! I have passed on my knowledge of Betfair, including BetAngel, which he is using and he welcomed the idea of my writing a book for the 'general public' - that's an important point. If Peter does not respond, then I would have to make a general chapter on Betfair-related software.
That is where I stand at the moment. Any other (constructive) comments would be welcomed.
Many thanks.

If you're book's about betfair and trading, just focus on that.
If you want to have a general chapter on the new software apps which have emerged around trading exchanges, no problems, but there's no need to focus on any one in particular.
As an aside, I hope your book illuminates the betfair clusterfuck that has happened since they listed. Once the City started pumping them for quarterly growth they were like rabbits in the headlights and all they could come up with was the brainwank premium charge. As corporate miscalculations they don't get much bigger

Oliver, I am trying to be constructive for you here.oliver123 wrote:Thanks for your replies so far. You say you have traded on Betfair since 2007 so you know what you are talking about. I have been trying to cook a souffle since 1999 and haven't managed a good one yet. There are a couple of things you need to address.
Being a good technical writer may put you in good stead to write the book. But I have never heard of you. You have made 4 or 5 posts on this forum. Have you a website? A Blog? Any videos demonstrating what you know? See my point? Just because you say you know what you doing why should anyone either believe you or trust you? Where is your credibility?
You may write the best book ever written on trading on Betfair. But one one will buy it unless they trust what you say is credible. You need to prove that and gain a presence before you release any book.
Oliver
Why write a book to make money. There are plenty of traders on here - including myself - that would be interested, and would pay, for your methods (if they work). If you write the book then surely you may have to pay royalties? My personnal thought is the bigger this trading thing gets the more liable it is to attract the wrong sort of attention i.e taxation etc and the wrong element of this world. You could quite easily make more money from advising people that have already discovered trading and need some guidance. Write a book on what you have learnt on the individual sports if you wish but leave trading alone. Why? anything you print will be used to much, if it works and then it wont be lucritive anymore so you ideas will quickly become 'old hat' and shortly after uncredible imho
