What on earth caused that!? The whole market went mad..
With all the respect in the world, unless you can back up why the manipulation being seen is linked to Betfair balancing its books then this is just creating another unnecessary Betfair myth.I was thinking it could be Betfair balancing its books from its non-exchange site.
I am not suggesting that it is manipulation, thats just your interpretation of the activity.
I don't know what is responsible for spoofing. I cant back that up at all. It is legitimate activity, if it is Betfair, so what?
Its a thought. A muse born out of my curiosity to find answers to the markets activity. As a trader I am less concerned with who is responsible, more concerned with how to deal with it.

The "crack trading team" that run the sportsbook have yet to develop software that tells them their odds are out of line with the exchange. So the chances that they are manipulating the exchange to reduce their liabilities is ********Yantraman wrote:Much less spoofing going on today. Must be having a day off? Can it really just be one individual though? I was thinking it could be betfair balancing its books from its non-exchange site.
I totally accept it's my interpretation, but much of the behaviour appears to be spoofing, prices appearing and disappearing quickly with no real intent to get matched and very large amounts (in relation to the market size) pushing prices around with dominance. It might be not manipulation, but the characteristics are very similar to manipulative techniques.I am not suggesting that it is manipulation, that's just your interpretation of the activity.
If it were Betfair I would ask questions about the authenticity and legitimacy of their exchange. If it were them, I think they should be transparent about what they're doing because it has such a profound effect on the prices available. When this activity is a regular occurrence, I would question the value of the price offered. Would you take a price, if you knew it could change so dramatically seconds later. It is legitimate activity, if it is Betfair, so what?
