Hi Guys

Have you had a day where you get good and bad news on the same day, well that's what i got yesterday.

Had a hospital appointment in the morning. Result-bad news.

Phone call from Betfair in the afternoon. Result-good news.

A friend of mine kept on at me to have a PSA blood test done. (This is a test for signs of prostate cancer). Eventually i did as i was told, this resulted in me then going to hospital to have a biopsy.
Went to find out the result yesterday morning. Bad news, Gleason score 6. This means i have slow growing prostate cancer. I was assured this is treatable, (my father was succesfully treated 10 years ago).
Next step is to have a MRI scan to find the extent of the cancer and if it has spread to other organs.

I went home shocked with the doom and gloom demons running riot in my head.

Switched on the computer and tried to do some trading, bad idea, wrong mind set. Switched it off and turned telly on, then the phone rang, and the demons are still running riot.

Blah blah blah Ascot blah blah.

The demons were kicked into touch, sorry could you repeat that.

This is Betfair calling, would you and a guest like to come our box at Ascot on Betfair chase day.

Yes i would, thankyou very much.

So, just when life throws you on the ground and kicks you in the teeth, it can also pick you up and give you a sweet.

I spent the rest of the day looking at the positive side of the bad news.

Had my friend not cajoled me into having a blood test, i probably would not have bothered and not known what was lurking inside me until it was too late.

So now the odds are stacked in my favour and it's no longer doom and gloom.

Why am i telling you this story?

Prostate cancer kills more men than it should do, if you are aged 50+(i'm 55) and you havn't done so yet, go and ask your doctor for a PSA blood test, it costs nothing, but could save your life.

Sorry for shouting, but GO AND DO IT.

As for Ascot, i've only been there to car boot sales and have never been in a hospitality box, also this is the first time Betfair have contacted me since i joined in 2006.
So i'm really looking forward to going there in 2 weeks time.

Hi David,

Thanks for that. And it's good to hear that after that awful news, you managed to look on the positive side so quickly.

And I heartily agree about getting tested. Most blokes don't (we're big and brave, obviously. But we also have the ability to avoid bad news by, well, avoiding things).

Hope you enjoy Ascot :D

Sorry to hear your results were positive and thanks for the reminder. Life gets busy day to day and we tend to forget about the important things. Anyway, now that you have caught it the doctors can act quickly.

Great news on Ascot! :D

Please give us a review when you have been! (Ive been on betfair since 2007 and I dont think Ive ever heard from them either, other than the odd marketing email! Mind you; they did send me a text about the casino yesterday, so things are looking up!

Regards

Hi guys

Thanks for the replies

Yep, men have turned avoiding things into an art form.

I have to thank my friend Brian for pestering me into having the blood test, else i would have been big , brave and ignorant.
There's an ad campaign on telly at the moment, fronted by Bill Bailly, he says one man an hour dies from prostate cancer. I would guess that most of these are big, brave and ignorant.

So please excuse me for saying it again, if you're age 50+ Go and get tested.

PeterLe.
When the phone rang, i wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone and nearly didn't answer it cos i didn't recognise the number. Good job i did though.

I'm really looking forward to the day at Ascot, i'll let you kmow how i get on.
