Half way in now mate, a month down a month to go. Would be interested to hear your views now that the 'newness' of it has rubbed off.

Do you still enjoy returning to work, do you miss the BF life? What do you plan to do after the 2 months?

Hope all is good with you.

Sorry to hear that JR, hope it all turns out well for you in the long run.

The PC3 is always a worry for everyone, i guess its a case of just building an exit strategy.

hi guys!

I have been there a while now and I am still loving it! Sure I'm not making massive amounts but I don;t have to worry about not making anything! And I am making some spending money on betfair trading the odd race here and there and Saturdays.

I have been extended until May so I'm there for an extra month at least. Before I went back to the office I felt a bit slow. Not slow slow! but like I hadn't really been tested to think about anything in any way for a while. After all I had been trading for 3-4 years from home fulltime! It hasn't taken long but the mind seems to have tuned in fairly quickly and all of a sudden I feel much sharper. My project is coming along quite nicely and considering I am getting no help or support from anywhere its starting to fly together fast.

Summer trading around the corner so hopefully I can get more involved there.

I will say though since I have only been trading saturdays and some evenings I do have some observations regarding the market.

The market seems to be settling down and this is down to pretty much one single thing.....the bot that was pushing everyones positions seems to have disappeared. The more I think about this the more I think this completely damaged the market. It made all the traders edgy. They had no idea where the market was going because it was completely manipulated against them. This literally broke the market stability. Now it has gone the market seems to be slowly coming back to where it was, albeit its very green shoots of recovery. I hope it stays away because when it is on there is no point trading.....you will never make any real money against it.

I feel regret to read your horrible situation jimrobo, but I must say also that I also feel relief to read about this because I am in the same situation and feel the same pains also. I trade every day and it is my only job here and since the autumntime I am making much less money. I did not make much money before but since the autumntime even less. And for me also my great problem is the monster robot that you are talking about. Everytime the robot is there I am losing money, it is no longer possible to trade. I try to change the horse but still the robot is trading the new horse also, that is why I know it must be a robot. I have been very close to leaving betfair but for me to find a job here at the moment is not very easy and I want to stay trading because I like it usually. In recent days trading has been less hard without this problem but still it is hard to make money and I wander that maybe my confident is hurt also because of the robot. I want very much to know if the robot will return, do you know? I spend years learning trading but I am not able to stay if the robot returns so I am worried about my future also and angry because this is my life it destroys. I am sure we are talking about the same thing, the big money comes to pushes like a bully everywhere so we lose money. Maybe it stops now and we can earn some money again! I wish you luck with your future tradings jimrobo

Cheers for the update Jimrobo. Glad to hear you are enjoying it still and it sounds like you won't be rushing back to Betfair trading any time soon now you have tried the grass on the other side of the fence again.

I am guessing you like being back in a work place social environment as well? Trading can be a lonely game especially when most other people just don't get it. I was watching 24 hours in A & E on Channel 4 the other night and they were talking about how it is good to go for a drink with another doctor when you have had a bad day just so you can talk it out of your system. Something which isn't normally possible in trading as you work on your own so although you can go for a drink with mates you don't really have anyone to talk it through with.

One observation, I suspect you are trading now with a totally different mindset to what you did when you were doing it day in day out, for example you do it for a bit of extra money not your income.

So could it be that the 'mega bot' was a figment of your imagination? Perhaps you projecting your own feelings about trading on to the market and looking for something other than yourself as to why things are not working as they used to? (Don't take that in the wrong way).

I know from in the past when I had my worse period of all on BF it was very much just me projecting my own performance on to the markets. I was doing badly so it must be the market that is messed up which is causing me to be messed up, I said to myself.

However, once I realised it was me and not the market my attitude changed and my performance changed. I went from being a glass half empty to a glass half full person and it was amazing the difference it made. Making that change in mindset though was the tough bit and maintaining it is even harder.

Well done on extending the contract and fingers crossed you get the FT position you want!

Keep us updated going forward.

Hi mate!

Sure no offence taken at all! I'm pretty certain its not all a figment of my imagination. On the run up to christmas I was in touch with a lot of traders who were all saying exactly the same thing. Its actually a shame you are not still on betfair to see because its really hard to comprehend or describe what this bot does! It seems ridiculous that something can manipulate positions against so many people but believe me it definitely is or was happening!

I am definitely a pocket money trader at the moment though. The money I make is for my gadget/holiday fund!

I can confirm the 'manipulator' was real.

When I was putting big stakes on, prices were routinely pushed against me by more than 18 ticks! This is not a fragment of my imagination because when I asked for prices with small stakes, suddenly, I couldn't get matched any more; even 3 or 6 tick margins were only getting matched less than 33% of the time!

If you can see somebody manipulating the market, then you can almost certainly go against him to make some money by anticipating what they will do next.

I sit and watch them and try and work out if they are over exposed in one direction or the other and now and again, if I am confident, I will give them a nudge.

Trading full time myself i'd also say it's certainly been real. I try to take the opposite view a lot of the time as people like to believe these theories and get paranoid. However i don't really dobt there has been some funny going on over the last few months at times, its definately caused some damage and many that havent been particularly negative about it before have had it on their mind....

the problem with trying to workout if its over exposed is that because it appears to trade every runner you have no idea what it is matched further up the book to be over exposed and also it will seemingly happily be overexposed if it means it can match more money! Its like a market leech!

I've been outspoken for about 2 years as to what happens on horses for short term trading. I've always tried to stay consistant with what I say. Others are not as consistant including some of the seasoned pros.

Wash trading is happening all the time across the entire book.

A sum of money equivalent to something like the world's GDP is traded on the Forex markets every fortnight (or it may be twice the world's GDP - I can't remember). Anyway, try telling a Forex trader that trading isn't a form of war games. :)

It may be harder for you to hide in lower liquidity markets, but the guys you're up against will have the same challenge (and some of the most skillful traders may decide to leave the market if there isn't enough liquidity to make it worthwhile).
