I'd like to think that I did my bit to help you out, when I managed to lose nearly 3 weeks profit yesterday and today. Need to do a full postmortem examining each trade but it was a breathtaking thing to *watch. The efficiency with which my code made my money disapear would have put a Mafia accountant to shame.
*Reviewed trades in the evening, not real time. Was too busy enjoying a country pub lunch to do anything when the worst was happening.
Today's Horse Racing
Odds between 5 and 30. I'm genuinely surprised. I've seen blips (good and bad) and had several systems that have just suffered diminishing return over time to the point of, well, pointlessnessLinusP wrote:Sorry to hear that, I can only assume you were laying at high prices?
(Can you say 'Regression to the Mean'

But this was like stuffing a diced chilli up my nose. Quite an eye watering experience.
It may have been just a bad couple of days (and I've had some of those), or it may have been a coding issue or a logic flaw. Once I know which, then I'll have learnt something valuable.
Ian,
Sorry to hear that.
I came very close once too, i was very lucky. After that I took a belt and braces approach
Just for other readers too...Im fairly sure that the liability settings in BA dont apply when using excel (anyone confirm?), so i tend to build in lots of safeguards on liability.
Anyway, hope you get it back soon
regards
Peter

Thanks Peter. Well, I've analyzed the trades that lost money. After reviewing all factors, my initials finding is that I lost money because I kept LAY'ing winners...PeterLe wrote:hope you get it back soon

But seriously - the markets were (in what I look for) less predictable than for the previous 45 days. But you know - it's like when they say 'This is the worst rain on March 25th in the last 28 years' - there is always a worst and best of anything.

ha ha! A car was my initial goal when I first started, I got it in the end..although its not as posh as some mentioned on here!
Post a picture when you get it!

Someone was trying to lay for a huge amount, so it went up loads then when the bet was exhausted it came back down to where it should have been.Consty1 wrote:What on earth was that Arantes graph all about in the 17:00?
Markets felt rather different today.
Someone hammering big bets on the fav causing that. If you know the bets are real then they can be great opportunities. E.g. you know once the bet is finally taken there's likely to be a big reversal if the original price has moved a lot by the betConsty1 wrote:I thought it was terrible personally. Vertical moves you can't get on followed by vertical reversals you can't get out of.
Nice trade Mugs. Looking at what I did I was almost acting identically to yourself once I got involved, even though that kind of thing isn't my normal bag.
Markets seemed to pick up quite a bit today. I remember the last week of february last year they started to pick up, so hopefully there'll be more of the same to come as it's been pretty bleak recently

Trying to let my profits run is killing me, lost count of the amount of profitable situations I get myself in only to see the vicious reversal and me scrambling to get out.
Not sure how I can improve that either as it seems to just be a reversal from a couple of big lumps as opposed to anything progressive.
