Something very unpleasant has just happened to me. I want to share it with you all.
Someone contacted me last week (by private message on this forum) and asked if I could help them. What they were effectively asking was for some detailed strategies for football. the guy has fallen on some hard times and he seemed a nice enough chap.
My reply was that I was very busy and that when I had some free time I would see what I could do. So last week was just about as intense as it gets with Cheltenham. I also have other stuff do concerning my own projects. Anyway, I don't feel I have to justify to anyone what I do with my time and how I manage it.
He sent another message a few days later and today I got another. It basically said that he hoped that if I was ever in trouble that someone would find the time to help me unlike me who had turned their back on him. he didn't say it quite like that though, but wasn't abusive.
I had every intention of trying to help him. Even though I am very busy. Even though what he was asking for was more that I would want to give away. But I thought I could point him in the right direction.
Well he won't be getting anything from me now.
I take great exception to what I perceive as emotional blackmail. There are lots of guys around who put a huge amount of time and effort into helping others. FFS, my YouTube channel has 170 odd videos. I have lost count of the number of emails, messages and forum posts I have made. It's stuff like this that makes me want to just disappear. I can't tell you how angry I feet. I was so pissed off I couldn't even trade today.
What I would say though. Is if you have hit hard times financially and think that you can get out of it by all of a sudden, with little effort on your part, by asking for a strategy on here (or anywhere else for that matter) then you need to get a grasp of reality and stop betting immediately.
My anger has turned to a sort of despair really. Is this how it is? I am always in control of my emotions when I trade. If I am not I don't trade. If I was in a mess I would exclude myself from Betfair. Betfair isn't the answer to many problems, in many cases it's the cause.
If any of you feel like this is a way out of your financial woes, please think again, and consider stopping.
I am happy to help - I will try and give you the most complete answer I can (if I know the answer that is).

Help and Advice: A sad tale
To be honest Mugs, that is the very reason why I turned off my PM's
I had a few people contact me, which was absolutely fine. In fact, it was nice having contact with other users. However, I started to have a few wanting me to give them specifics of how I trade, this lead to them wanting me to actually help them directly.
I then turned off my PM's after a guy threatened me because I wouldn't lend him £250 to start trading with! I kept it quiet at the time and just ignored him.
Peter Webb must get shit like that all the time, I'd be interested to know how he deals with them

Its a strange one that one Steve?
I can imagine how it throws you? We all know there's no click here to make a thousand button, but I doubt very much that everyone will believe that.
All I can say is try not let the 0.001% spoilt it for the genuine people out there as I know you get a lot of satisfaction helping those that want to better themselves and are prepared to help themselves.
Pardon the pun, but the stakes are big, becoming successful via trading is a life changer and some people are very desperate.

99.9% of the people I come into contact with are fantastic. They enrich my life and I enjoy helping them on their journey.
I have had a bit of stick, a bit of banter (I like banter, as i give it out and some) but this was different.
It's business as usual. He has only spoilt it for himself.

Steve - the lesson I have learnt is "No good deed goes unpunished". I have been burnt in the past - never again. There is a growing minority of people who expect all and give nothing. The majority appreciate the time and advice that you and others provide on this forum. Your videos are great - 15 trades without a loss - small profits at this time but no losses.
Thank you.

John

As a novice trader (am I allowed to call myself that if I consistantly lose??), I do not post a great deal here. I prefer to read as many threads as I can and soak it all up. I have approached a couple of pro traders with a view of some mentoring. I hope that doesn't put me in the same barrel as the chap who contacted Mugs.
I post this up for Mugs and would say you have done more than your fair share of giving up your time with explanations and videos. You shouldn't lose any sleep over this whatsoever.

Thanks fellas. Hey, asking for help is absolutely fine. That's what forums like this are about. I am always happy to help if I can. From my point of view if I can make somebody's life just a tint bit better in any way, however, tiny. Then that makes me a better human being. It makes me feel good. Sometimes you want to help, but can't. Sometimes the help you are being asked for goes a little too far. In that case you politely say so.
I'm not really grumpy anymore. I was earlier
No, I'm just feeling a little sad that someone is so desperate that they think this game will solve their problems in life. It just so will not.
In a way I sort of feel partly responsible. I think it's guys like me who glamourise this shit sandwich. Let's be honest, in reality. It's about as glamorous as a shit sandwich!

Hi Mugs. I've rather belatedly started looking at your excellent blog. Your accent struck a chord with me. It sounded very much like the place of my birth - Nuneaton. Am I close? My own accent has been heavily modified after years of living in London and the South East - but grass will always be grasse and not grarse!
Financial pressure can really bring out the worst in people. When he comes out of that pressure he'll probably feel embarrassed and grateful you told him this wasn't the way out of financial difficulty. No, I'm just feeling a little sad that someone is so desperate that they think this game will solve their problems in life. Whether he does or not you've done him a huge favour.
That's what happens when a "hedge fund" buys a football club to try and strip it of it's assets. The thing is the Football Club doesn't own their ground. The club now has gates of less that 2000 for "home" games. All the lads I know won't go to Sixfields. They go to all the away games instead. They took 9000 to Mk Dons.Online Trader wrote:& a nice empty football stadium
Why would a hedge fund buy a football club? How many clubs actually make any money? It's bizarre. They have ruined the club for generations.
The way it used to work is when you were a kid your Grandad or Dad took you to your local club, then when you grew up you went with your mates. The you took your kids and Grandkids. There are families in Liverpool that support Everton or Liverpool based on their family.
In Coventry - kids support Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal etc. If they do ever come back, there will be a generation of supporters missing.
This sort of stuff will destroy football as we know in this Country.
