A Twitter exchange between Ian Chuter, Betfair Operations Direction (@IChuter) and I:

Me: Hi. Why was the 21:24 Shawfield suspended early last night? It cost me nearly £70, as I was unable to close my trade.

@IChuter: Our suspend time was 21:23:29 and the official off time was 21:23:41 which is when the hare comes out the traps. Nothing wrong as far as we can see.

Me: If you suspend a greyhound race 10 seconds before the off, that will leave people with open trades high and dry, with respect.

No response as yet, and I'm not holding my breath.

Looks like I'll have to take this one on the chin.

Jeff you could close your trades 13 seconds before the start that may help :)

Probably not a bad idea. :)

It's just a bit frustrating when a race is supposed to go off at a particular time, and it's suspended before that time, when you're mid-trade.

Oh well, you live and learn...

jeff,
if i trade the dogs - not often (once , twice a month ), i only trade the better liquid ones which are usually open races and ones that are on sky, the rest are just junk.

i use a semi auto excel sheet and i have set it to always green/red at 18 secs before the advertised off. as yet it as not been caught by an early off (not to say it will never happen).

if you trade them set an auto rule to get yourself out early. 15 secs or so.

bags meetings and the lower grades usually not worth the effort, no money in them.

Cheers Tony

I agree re. the lower grade stuff, but Shawfield seems just about 'tradable' (possibly because it's televised).

Don't know this market and greyhounds to me are buses  but closing markets early has been one of the standard bookie cons since things went online

eg, good luck getting anything under 1.2 with Will Hill in a tennis grand slam. Silly example I know as anyone who DID inch in at the close would have their account closed or limited immediately, but you know what I mean

betfair is just like any other bookie these days... scum
