I wonder if you guys can help...
On the betting exchange academy website there is the today's racing page. Could anyone tell me what the odds highlighted in green means.
Many thanks

Has anyone noticed over the last few days the massive sums of money sat about in the market... even on the weaker quality races? Seems pretty heavy duty at times.
Manipulation is obviously present all the time but seems its just been ramped up lately, makes me wonder how many really big traders there are as i would have thought they'd be keen to take a chunk out of this guy at times. Yesterday from the money i see sat in the market not assuming all of it was one person i worked out they'd have to be playing over 100k bank... keen to know what the other fulltimers think and if they've noticed this?

There are quite a few traders that have virtually unlimited banks. So if I see something in the market I tend not to go up against it as I could get burnt. Instead I trade through it. I'm happy to build a position with a view that I know better than the manipulator which way the market will go.
Sometimes nothing happens, but when it breaks it can be a really useful trade.

Sure when you get one of those its often a very profitable trade, only trouble is in the weaker instances you're pretty much forced to pay them should you get involved. Do you not think its been a lot more aggressive just lately with a lot more money left laying about ?
Y, you can't challenge them as they always seem to have more money that you. It's an open question as to the scale, extent and nature of it.
Manipulation like this has been going on for some time: -

But it does feel broader than ever.

I didn't do yesterday Chuck so I can't comment, but I did receive this email last night from a full timer whose been going a nearly a decade which indicates you're not alonechuck536 wrote:Has anyone noticed over the last few days the massive sums of money sat about in the market... even on the weaker quality races? Normally he's quite articulate and I wouldn't need to black out half his words

Shouldn't laugh really. Will be very interesting to see how it is today
Hmmm I can see you're pals point H. Sometimes i watch and it does appear that the larger sums are almost sat waiting to be hit before it responds by manipulating across the book. Which obviously leads to it appearing as one source with the money spread everywhere... not sure what else to say other than it can be bloody annoying! Hope he don't end up in tescos.. im sure that would be worse haha
Funnily enough I'm working with a local computer whizz to record and isolate all sorts of data from the UK races so I can analyse forensically all sorts that goes on. I'll report back in a few months when I've got a ton of data. It's amazing what you can actually capture once you actually know what you're doing technicallyEuler wrote:Yesterday was particularly bad.
Any anybody wants to try and isolate the characteristics then I'm happy to try and muster up some data.
I have spoken to Betfair about manipulation, but they didn't seem that concerned.

Haha he wouldn't be the first to be slayed by it all, ask Jimrobo!chuck536 wrote:Hmmm I can see you're pals point H. I think it goes a lot deeper than just large amounts a lot of the time. I don't know what you experienced yesterday but a lot of what I've seen appears to be deliberately targeted at disrupting traders as much as possible, not just luring us in with spoof bets, but for instance, price hogging up and down the book and across the card, reading traders orders and pushing the price against them, or at least putting in road blocks so that we can't trade out for more than a scratch, not hedging themselves which creates a totally uneven playing field, self matching large amounts to create a false impression, going after any unmatched orders in the market that arent their own etc etc.... I could be here all day really lol but the behaviour is a much more sophisticated targeting of traders than most people realise IMO and is part of what I'm studying.
Must be an even greater concern for you guys who teach people, given the huge influence this has over the markets (I agree with you Chuck that it's mostly from one source.) You nuture your chicks, watch them hatch, then see them get picked off by a wolf:!:
