Hi everybody,
today I'm experiencing a problem with exel which
I do not understand:
data arrives to the BA software with a desent refresh rate (fast enough), but then it takes 4-5-10 seconds to get to the workbook and of course it is totally useless because I operate live and I need split-seconds speed.

Any ideas?
thank you

Are you connected to Excel using Guardian or the Excel tab?

Does it make any difference if you change from one to the other?

Hi,
I connect through the excel button as always.
Yesterday I began to think it was my computer playing up, so I set up two computers running the same thing (i.e. Bet Angel with Guardian and excel workbook linked):
a) runs Bet Angel version 1.23.7
b) runs Bet Angel version 1.24.0

I repeat: the data from Betfair into Bet Angel arrives fast and the quotes move very well, they just
arrive in the workbook 5-15 seconds later and totally uselessly to me.

So I can exclude local computer speed or lack of RAM,
I can exclude the BA version; and I can exclude Api connection with Betfair. This started on Friday, up to Thursday it was fine..

Very frustrating waste of time... so any help would be welcome.
thanks to all

Are your refresh rates set as normal?

Hi Zapata,
Refresh rate in BA 500 ms (but, as I said, BA speed is fine, the problem starts with excel)

are there any refresh rates that can be set in Excel?
If so I am totally unaware about and would be grateful if you told me how to set them

Thanks

I don't know of anything inside excel.

You only have the refresh rate on the main BA screen and the one in guardian. They do both interact with each other though.

Try pausing the refresh in guardian and make sure the auto refresh on your main screen is set.

Hi Corbus
Do you have a lot of code in excel ?If so that might be the problem.
Try slowing the refresh rate down. I have my own excel graph that i use on my laptop . I find that it runs better at slower refresh speeds(2 sec refresh).

Have you got code or formulas running in Excel that react to cell changes - e.g VBA Worksheet_Change or lots of interdependent cell formulas?

BA can only update Excel when Excel is completely idle. So if you have code that does stuff (writes to a file/DB, loops through data etc), then BA will update itself, but will just skip updates to Excel until it's idle again.

If you do have code/formulas in there, then try running a vanilla BA spreadsheet on one PC and your updated sheet on the second and compare those results.

I had forgotten this experience of years ago, and now it happens again...
on some races, refresh rate is ok in Guardian but it slows down terribly in the excel sheet linked to it. This is the odd thing: most times is ok but now and then it happens...

version of BA is 1.34.2

any ideas anybody?

What are you comms settings and what are you Guardian settings?

Reduce the markets you are using in guardian and set the gaurdian refresh rate to 200ms, then see what happens. If you have 10 markets set at 200ms you will only get a refresh rate on your markets every 2 sec, 20 markets = every 4 secs.

The faster guardian cycles the more likely it is that Bet Angel will start buffering. So I would about to suggest slowing down Guardian.

Bet Angel buffers to avoid data charges.

Doesn't the bottom part of the screen go red when betfair buffer your calls, in peters video it does.....

It sounds like the problem I had last week, if you wish to trade multiple markets in excel at once you will get a refresh rate every 15 secs or so. I doesn't seem that bet Angel has the capabilities to run multiple markets at once with a fast refresh.

I only really use Excel for a specific bot on just the market I'm watching, as it can place the precise trade I'm looking for considerably quicker than I can

I gave up using multiple sheets and having Guardian loaded up, as the performance of Excel deteriorated quite alarmingly
