For Betfair, and the exchange in general, it's much better to have people churning liquidity thru the markets by cross market gambling or break even strategies rather than hundreds of traders hitting and running or exploiting quirks of the exchange. I'd have preferred it if they brought in some sort of yearly ceiling though rather than the blanket £250K which just catches more and more people each year, usually ones who've supported the exchange since the start, tbf.

If you break even on the market, what is the advantage of this over just paying PC?Euler wrote:You back one goal or more and back 0-0 in proportionate amounts. So one will win and one lose but you break even, but you pay commision anyhow which is offset against premium charge.

The PC is calculated by the percentage of commission you pay overall so generating £50 in commission on the market will mean you'll pay less PC overall or if you manage to generate enough commission may take you out of the PC bracket.verycrispy wrote:If you break even on the market, what is the advantage of this over just paying PC?Euler wrote:You back one goal or more and back 0-0 in proportionate amounts. If you consider the difference in the higher PC brackets is just 5% between paying 40% or 60% of your winnings you can see why people will happily churn money to get into the 40% bracket for relatively little effort.

I dont understand the higher brackets...i read the betfair FAQ, if you have 10% lifetime commission generated, you fall in 40% PC. Isnt it almost impossible to have under 10% lifetime commision generated to gross profit?spreadbetting wrote:The PC is calculated by the percentage of commission you pay overall so generating £50 in commission on the market will mean you'll pay less PC overall or if you manage to generate enough commission may take you out of the PC bracket.verycrispy wrote:If you break even on the market, what is the advantage of this over just paying PC?Euler wrote:You back one goal or more and back 0-0 in proportionate amounts. If we consider the way Betfair calculate commission, and the fact the base rate is 5%, for plenty of traders it can be hard to avoid being in that under 10% if you're a trader with few losses.
