This confirms that United were right to get rid of Moyes. He wanted United to play a negative style of football, and the players clearly had no confidence in him.

As its coming from Ferdinand, are chips a new drug or a slang name for coke?

I think that Ferdinand made himself look a bit silly with his chips comment. Moyes made a lot of mistakes, but footballers on millions of pounds a year need to get a sense of perspective if they get upset about not being allowed to eat chips!

I feel a bit sorry for Moyes because his career has been seriously stained by all this.
He could end up like Steve Mclaren and be forced to re-start his career away from England
I suppose at Everton it was always a case of making themselves difficult to beat first, and this was a mental hurdle he struggled with - at United he was expected to kick teams backsides playing expansive football. In hindsight, he was a very bad choice by Fergie - Sir Alex got it wrong
I actually think Moyes would be a brilliant manager for Newcastle, as he'd install some discipline there and make them harder to break down

Or working on the gate collecting ticket money.
He obviously wasn't the right man to follow fergie but then again who would have been. It would be hard for anyone to do anything but fail after fergie.

I'd have liked to have seen Guardiola or Mourinho get the job, but if United go on to great things under VG, then it could be that it worked out for the best long-term.

Not sure about long term Jeff. VG is no spring chicken so he can't have to many years in him before he wants to retire.
I agree the two you mentioned should have been top of the list. I guess a big reason Moyes was picked was fergie wanted a little clone in who would have stayed for 20 years to create continuity like he had. I think the problem they face is the top managers like to move on quite often for a new challenge so they went with Moyes but now they simply can't afford to bring in someone else who has never won anything.

Perhaps not, but if he can create a world class side, and if the club can avoid repeating the mistake of hiring a small team mentality manager like David Moyes to replace him, then he can leave a lasting legacy.steven1976 wrote:Not sure about long term Jeff. BTW, VG is only 63, and he seems to be fit and full of energy. It wouldn't surprise me if he carries on till he's 70.
