Just wondered if anyone watched Panorama last night about Greyhound racing fixing..
Its been going on for years..but you makes you wonder just how much it goes on in horse racing.. :?:
The guy revealed in the program stated that they managed to slow down three dogs and then did a tricast perm on the other three netting them 190k euros..
If they can do this on the dogs, what could they achieve on the horses?

You would imagine its worse on horses as a couple of jockeys can control their speed. With the dogs you would never be sure if the dog has a big dump just before the off and lightens up.

That's what I'm afraid off. In the future, I think the strategy for betting would change. I mean mean to predict which one is fixed to win I guess.

I think it would be extremely difficult to fix a horse race in today's day and age. The stewards have access to everything (betting records with every corporate, vet checks, drug tests). Even if stewards in the greyhound racing game have access to these, I think greyhounds can be more easily duped as all it takes is a meat pie (or even a lot of water) and the dog could be 10 lengths of his/her best, whereas I don't think that would affect a 500kg horse too much.

Me and some mates were interested in buying a Pompey dog in the early 90's

We had the money between us to find a good one and have him trained, but were put off by the shit that went on behind the scenes

That was 23 years ago, but since then we've seen a serious demise in greyhound racing, including many track closures and the prize money is appalling, it simply doesn't cover the costs

This all leads to dodgy activities by dodgy people

Whenever money is involved, especially when you are not buying or selling anything, corrupt practices will happen. Its happened with big snooker players, footballers, dogs, horses etc......
