What do you think is the best way to go about studying the uk horse racing markets?

Just sit here and watch every market and take notes of its key characteristics/elements like race type, volatility, distance, course, number of runners etc? Maybe there's some more i'm unaware of? This seems a bit slow and inefficient though.

I've already started collecting data through the excel function but going through 500 000 rows of data manually seems slow. Anyone know of a special way to sort the data automatically to analyse it much easier with excel?
I know there's a lot of work involved to understand the markets but i don't like to waste time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks

The best way is probably by playing the markets. Just use small stakes. There's not a whole lot that can go wrong then.

Note the number of runners, length, grade. Then click a bit at random, see what happens. Watch the odds of pairs of horses, see how they interact. You'll soon see patterns. Now the trick will be to distinguish between real patterns and the ones your mind made up.

Take a look at the Proform website, plenty of ideas there.
