Manipulation - Self Matching - What do you see?
it seems to have been rife on the evening a.w card at kempton this week. alot of self matching and manipulation, i found the market generally goes the direction you have predicted but it can be a rough ride. i found my self getting into a position only for me to stop out and then the price fire off and having to get back in. in the end i found myself scaling back my stake and giving the stop a wider birth but even then i still stopped out. reading the move can be a pain in the arse when 5k + orders are firing in on each side of the book and the price is all over the place. can be frustrating but its all practice

"It's remarkable how often big swings in a horse's price follow immediately or soon after a significant spike in volume. But I don't see how self-matching fits into the picture, other than to give other traders a clear signal to pay very close attention to the situation, and then act accordingly."
I guess if market makers or bf are offering money both sides of the book and matching their own money back and forwards with a bot when actually nothing is really happening, a real back bet of say 2000 enters a market, the market makers lay that, whilst at the same time shooting up through their own money at prices above to make it look like a lot of layers are suddenly in the market. They create a new price volume and leave a few gaps behind for scalpers to fill so that they know their get out point and at the same time a few people trying to jump on the upward move they have created by smashing through their own money?

I have had the week off so have been analysing some pre race data and noticed that on almost every race there is something odd happening. Please click on the link below to see an extract of a race from yesterday (Taunton 13:00 / Exemplary)

A big order is put on one side which moves the market but its almost as though the move is fake (self matching) Another order is then placed the other side. Look at the +Matched and -Matched to see where the money is being matched, the orders will change to red if my algo thinks manipulation is taking place.
Does anyone know what this guy is up to?

Betfair should act against spoofing. It spoils trading and puts off new entrants. It's not allowed in financial markets so why here? Surely Betfair could flag up unusually large bets in a market and see if the account holder was allowing these bets to be matched or not. They would soon find the culprits.
trouble with banning spoofers is i assume todays one would be banned, and that would be a crying shame.tweebie1999 wrote:Betfair should act against spoofing.
