I noticed yesterday that whenever I place a sub-£2 bet using BA it appears the software only counts two bets. My question is, wouldn't Betfair count it as three bets? My understanding is that BA places a sub-£2 bet by placing a "dummy" £2 bet at odds of 1000, then "tops up" that bet with the desired amount, then edits the "top up" bet with the desired odds.

I ask because the other day I was charged for excess transactions. It wasn't for alot of money, but the way I set up the speadsheet was to specifically watch the Tx count and stop betting well before 1000 bets in an hour, so that seems to me to be the only way it could have gone over.

Please share more detail.

They do, got hit by them a couple of times already.

They say "APING is free of charge to all developers until at least 12th January 2015 No data request charges for requests made via APING".

I think this only goes for requesting market data, not placing/modifying/cancelling orders.

This is the message I got:

Hi **********,

We noticed that you're due to be charged a transaction charge for the first time today, so we wanted to make sure you understood this.

In addition to any commission payments, Betfair customers will be charged a transaction fee if they process a large number of transactions on either the main Betting Exchange or on Exchange Games.

For more information on this, please visit here: http://www.betfair.com/aboutUs/Betfair. ... /#charges4

Also, if you have any other queries/questions on this, please do get back in touch.

Kind regards,

I am pretty sure the charges are for excessive number of bets. I'm not questioning whether the charge is legitimate.

Rather, my question is - why is the software counting only two transactions in situations where it appears it should be counting three?

Transactions charges still apply, data charges do not. Commission will offset your transaction charges.

That one explains it and thanks. I think that's were the confusion started in the first place. Cheers.

Betfair defines a 'transaction' as something that generates a new bet reference. So things like stake reduction or bet cancellation are not considered to be a transaction by betfair.

Are sure about that? I thought a cancelOrder request counts as one transaction?

That explanation makes sense, since placing a sub-£2 bet would, by my count, generate three bet references.

What we haven't yet explained is why, under these circumstances, Bet Angel is only counting two transactions.

The sub-min bet placement can be done differently with API-NG compared to API 6 which saves a transaction.
