Anyone know why this race was abandoned https://www.betstar.com.au/racing/2015- ... ting-pace/
It appeared to go in play for quite some time. Is it normal to abandon a race after turning in play?

Guessing, as I wasn't watching and no steward's reports are available - but usually if there is a fall, and the horse is a danger to the rest of the field. Either heading off in the other direction, or horse or driver laying prone on the track.... hence the race will be in-play until the stewards sound the sirens to alert drivers. Doesn't happen often, maybe a handful of times a year.

This race was abandoned with approximately 800m to travel when Never Look Back galloped and fell approaching the winning post with a lap to travel severely checking the greater majority of the field with the following drivers all being dislodged from the sulky: Glen Davies (Brandons Price), Doc Wilson (The Righteous One), Stuart Govers (Wheresyareallyben) and Michael Bellman (Never Look Back). All drivers were subsequently examined by the on-course ambulance attendants and cleared to take their remaining drives. Upon reviewing the replay it was established that Never Look Back got its off side foot entangled in the hopple causing it to fall. Stewards could not be satisfied that the hopple set up failed to comply with the requirements of the connections and no further action was taken

Thanks dog of ry, never realised that races get abandoned.
Anyone else plan to join the competition on Queensland?
Got this today "You have been selected to enter the Betfair Winter Invitational, where you could win $20,000 cash by being the best punter on Queensland's Winter Carnival! "
I don't see how it is possible for a trader to win this type of competition (unless pretty much every race is won by an outsider in which case an all green trader looks much better against a punter who has backed one of the favourites).

I read the rules and it says "only your first bet on the nominated horses will count towards the competition". So perhaps if you back or lay your selection before you begin trading the race, you will be eligible for the competition. Anyway, it sounds like fun and we'll have to compare tips

This is what I see in the t and cs.
"The Best Profit and Loss position (before commission) will be calculated on only bets placed and settled at the nominated race venue and date. It will be calculated by subtracting all losing eligible bet amounts from all winning eligible bet profits (before commission) for each relevant round."
So not just first bet, but a genuine profit and loss. I'm back in business.
I forgot to post this when it occurred but Swan Hill R6 failed to either turn in-play or suspend. In fact all the pre-off money and bots were still active till 10 minutes after the end of the race. I managed to get quite a bit matched just in case but Betfair voided all bets after the official jump - 140K was matched "in-play" compared to 60K pre-off
