Are some traders able to make a long-term profit by manipulating the market, or is the market too big and too smart for any one trader to change its course?

Market manipulation
If you see the farcical thread (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=770&p=7492&hilit=farcical#p7492) there is nearly always somebody in the market trying to manipulate prices. How successful this is though, is debatable. I think that if people can see you in the market then you can be opposed. Last week there was a ton of money at 3's, around £15k I think. As the price came down to that level, I and somebody else agreed to smash through it. It sent the spoofer running for the hills and the price collapsed.
Personally I think it's better to stay off the radar as this means you can manage your orders without exposing yourself too much to people who can see you and push you around.

This company or guy have been doing this for while on football matches. In the last 4 months they have incresead their budget on many football matches I have been trading too. They ( she or he) showing up on most of italian league matches. They must have a very afficiente betting boots using a strategy similar to a fishing net, blocking all the exit. Funny though that you guys have been talking about this thread for while which I never seen on the forum. I have mentioned this thread few months ago, I was told I was crazy and paranoid. you can use their strategy in your favour but sometimes they manage to follow up your orders almost instantly, you have to be quick to cancell. If you see 500K in the queue spread on HW AW DRAW on both sides ( lay and back) on a football market 100K to 250K matched bets, It is them so, place an order 1 tick below them on back side and 1 tick above them on the lay side using 4-5 pounds at time you likely to be matched both sides. or £1.99 at time so they cant see it. £1.99 does not seems a lot to trade but over 100-200 times worth the effect. good luck..
I've noticed some very strange amounts on football matches in the past month or so
This money seems to come in the last 30 minutes before the off
I've not fully worked out their tactics yet because these amounts haven't frightened the markets in the way you would expect

they usually keep on their stakes until a goal is scored..last week i got £5 profits on several events following them with £1.99 to £12 at time placing bets several times within 40 to 65 minutes. If you notice on horses they usually leave one exit open for panicking traders...on football they block both exits. I understand their strategy but I find difficult to explain it ( my english is very bad and perhaps one day I can use it as well

BeautifulI and somebody else agreed to smash through it

I try to oppose to manipulators if I sense them and it has payed off well.
Even on a crappy Leiria - Leixões there was a spoofer a few weeks ago... 20 minutes before the off, trying to lay Leiria @1.8, 1.81 and 1.82 with massive stakes...
I backed them @1.83 with a high percentage of my bank and was able to lay it @1.75

When I have a proper notion of value it's a pleasure to go against them

As I can't do that on horses, when they are around I just stay still

think ive just seen it on the cricket. The odds were around 1.8 on one of the teams before the off in the bangalore game and the other team were 2.1. As soon as it went in play a bet was placed for 99,999 on the lay side and the back side came in to 1.3. Then went back out to 1.5 and then there seemed to be a 50k bet going in on one side and 10 k on the other.

Thank you Andy!
Steven, wasn't that caused by the coin toss?

The 16:00 Yarmouth was mental
A pretty ordinary handicap by anyone's standards yet plenty of £7K amounts going through on Fair Passion to drive the price to a low of 4.50 before it then drifted all the way back out to 5.60.
I watched the race and let's say they didn't seem to be trying too hard!!!
