Hi
I doubt they have been deleted, they will be located in a different folder? Perhaps you changed from Bet Angel Professional to the Server edition? The rules data is generally stored in the %AppData/Roaming% folder and each version uses a unique folder.
Here is a Knowledge Base article that helps Settings Rules Location
A quick tip from me. I store two copies of my rules, one using the default and another on One Drive. I know if there is a failure I should at least have a live copy available.

how can i ensure these are all intact when i start to use BA on another computer. Can somebody give me the simplest and foolproof method of ensuring i do not lose them
Copy this into your address bar
C:\Users\<YOUR_USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Bet Angel\Bet Angel Professional
your_username is your windows login name
Select everything there (this is all your automation files, profiles, setting and layout etc)
right mouse button "copy"
the "paste" into a new folder - DO NOT MOVE
If you install BA on another computer navigate to the same address and copy all the files from this new folder you will now have the same set up on both
