Update 18:19: All services have been back to normal since 17.13 and although the attack continues it is being completely mitigated by the DDOS solution. We have identified the target of the attack and removed it from the network. (The target was a server purchased earlier today which seems to have been purchased with the express intent of damaging our network.)

You do wonder what technology Betfair has in place to avoid DDOS attacks - it must be world leading as I am sure they face multiple DDOS attacks daily.

i never understand why ddos attacks happen on sites such as betfair. i can understand to some extent why they target certain polical groups/regime's, and other controversal groups, but not legit everyday companies. beyound me.

It is the modern day hold up - take the site down, pay us £x amount and you can have it back. Don't pay us and you can't have it back.

I believe Ladbrokes and other bookmakers a few years back were victims of DDOS attacks during Cheltenham where they lost their site for some time.

High tech highway robbery. I never realised this happened to any great extent.
Interesting article. Cheers for the link.

i think i am very naive when comes it comes to computer crime. pity these people cant apply their knowledge/expertise to something useful or legal. wasted talent what a shame.

We can't see any problems at the moment, have we missed something?

Not yet. BetAngel seems ok, I've watched the action on a few races and made a few trades.
