I do a lot of DOBing; unfortunately, sometimes life gets in the way of my trading. I have sat, thought, searched, and bashed my head trying to come up with some automation that could be implemented in Bet Angel for those times I am called away.
The main stumbling block is, after putting in the back bet on the selected horse at a predetermined time before the start of the race, how can I then schedule a lay bet to fire in at exactly half the odds of the back bet?
Global automation will not work (I think) because you can only offset the original bet with specific tick difference, nothing that allows you to go exactly half of whatever the back bet is.
Or is there a way ... ??
Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Automation for DOBing
There are 2 possible ways in guardian, if you go into the conditions tab and select "close trade profit condition" you can set the trade profit condition with greening equal to your original stake.
There is also a similar condition "green all profit" which also let you set the profit you wish to close the trade at.
Hope that helps

Another problem I have come up with is horse selection within the automation. I obviously have to choose a specific horse for each race I am trying to DOB on.
This is okay when I'm setting up the automation and I know the name of the first horse, but this becomes a rule I cannot subsequently use on other races because the automation was set up for the first race horse's name (hope this is clear, lol). How can I get around this?

No easy way round this part in guardian as the horses you want to DOB will probebly not always be the Fav or 2nd Fav or in the same row so the Only way you can do this is make the rule individual to each horse - once the first rules is created in the rules editor use the two green arrows (3rd buttin along the top) and duplicate the whole rule then go back in and set the name of the next horse you want and repeat till you have all the horses you want to DOB for each day

It stands for Double or Bust (DOB) you basically back a horse then lay it at halfs its price usually by taking SP, so if you back for £100 at 6.0 you would lay for £200 at 3.00 giving a £100 proftit Hence double or you it does nt half in prcie and loses then you bust.

Hey Andy. Is that even possible? Or am I missing something? I don't think you could set to have different horse names from different races in the same rule. It might be possible to set up duplicated automation rules (so DOB1, DOB2 etc.), and then have each of these have a rule allocated a certain betfair order. But the issue here would be if the horse became a non-runner or changed its betfair order.

Have a look at this site marksmeets302,I just use it for B2L works OK for me. Just load your fav into https://gg.co.uk/ you get an email before the race.
Can be a goldmine after you have built up a portfolio of nags.
Covers DOB too.
Good Luck

Thanks Bilko, but that's too much of a black box for me
Hi yes all you need to do is add your markets to guardian click on the 1st race and then edit rules - under genral tab at the bottom "applies to selction (by name)" and selct the horse you want, now duplicate that rule and go onto the next race and edit the horse you want to apply it on in that market, so each markcet will have an identical rule but each with a individually named selection. by choosing there name it makes no difference if there is a non-runner and if yours ends up being a non runner no bet will be placedTonyC wrote:Hey Andy. The problem I attended to see with DOBing is that the prices the people used to offset the bet are completely arbitrary and bear no relationship to the length or other runners in the race. There is a common sense way to do a back to lay but it seems that certain types of these trades have been popularised without any sensible logic behind them?
