If you are seeing more frequent updates in Guardian AND you haven't select 'restrict refresh' AND you are looking at a very quiet market or it is a long time before the start, then I think this is correct behaviour.

If no data in that market has changed (e.g. no trades made, no odds changes etc), then Guardian will show an update (it 'checked') but it won't update the spreadsheet (why would it, if nothing has changed?).

I see this all the time. I setup Guardian at around 5am each morning. Guardian refreshes promptly but some sheets update only once every 20 or 30 seconds because there isn't much market activity at that time of the morning. As people wake up and start trading, the excel refresh catches up with Guardian.

I know this is an old thread, but thought it might be worth saying...

I WOULD STILL LOVE A 'ONLY REFRESH WHEN INPLAY' option, which several people have asked for, but I've heard no response from BA.
:(

I have just read with interest this thread and may have a solution that may help.

I was experience a lower refresh rate in my excel sheet than I expected. I have a 6 core processor, and it appears that excel is trying to make use of all processors which surprisingly can actually slow it down.

So in excel if you go to options/advanced and in the "formulas" section you can change to "manual" and select the number of processors you want to multi thread. I have reduced mine from the default "use all processors" to only 2. Now my spreadsheet is flying along!!

I guess you may need to experiment to get the optimal settings. :)
