Poor horse. Do you think horses are treated inhumanly in horse racing?

Yes and No.

When a horse brakes down from a fall (broken leg) usually they actually dont feel any pain. But they are then put down with a bullet to the brain.
If anyone has ever worked or own a racehorse they will also know how dangerous they can be. You have to in some cases be very firm with them.
Horses love to run but it is cruel to some degree. People think the whip is cruel. The whip is for the horse's safety too not just the jockey, used in a driving finish I think is cruel.

Then the debate is this, if horse racing was banned then there would not be any race horses bred?

Theres a lot of good and bad. I think trainers allowing to train 200 horses is most definitely cruel. How can one operation manage that many horses. No paddock times at all really. Stuck in a box 24 hours day.

I think it certainly can be made less cruel and actually rewarding for horses if they changed a few things.

Next time you see a horse that ran maybe 2/3 days ago and is running again. Dont think, the trainer thinks the horse is clearly fit and can win. Think more like, its a business and the owner wants a return on his money.
Trainers dont actually have that much power. But they could do more.

One other point. horse racing isnt cruel to every horse. Look at Frankel, everything was so easy for him. Being in a stable, travelling, to racing. He wasnt bothered at all.
To other horses its different, Ive saddled a horse at the races and seen him shaking for his life, when there playing up in the paddock it could be because the horse is very distressed and very frighten.

I hope they are at least treated well after they retire.

Unless the horse becomes a stallion or a mare. No thats is the biggest problem with racing.
What happens when there no good is all dependant to the hands the horse belongs to.
