Zanzuccki said that the New Jersey license prohibits betting on the exchange by robotic programs that are designed to scour the propositions offered on the site and quickly match or propose wagers. Betfair officials have told the commission that 70 percent of its business is generated by the programs, and Zanzuccki said the racing commission may reconsider the prohibition after a study of the robotic programs' existing practices are conducted by an independent consulting group that conducts audits of gambling operations on behalf of state gambling agencies.

70%... interesting

Yes 70% is very interesting

However, do BF know whether a bet placed via an API like BA, is manual or automation?

Is that 70% correct, or does it simply mean 70% of bets are placed outside of the BF site, which is of course manual transactions only

I believe it is 70% through the API rather than the website. So that could mean anything.

That's exactly what I thought mate - BF surely would have no idea how bets are being placed on BA

What that means though, is any hopes of USA customers on the exchange will only be through the main site, not through BA or any other API

Just as well for your family Peter......you'd be packing them off to America ready for am explosion of new BA subscribers!

I've followed the legislation through the US but it's incredibly messy and who knows where it will end.

I can never get my head around how a country can have such tight gambling laws yet such relaxed firearms laws

Plus hopefully it doesn't end up like the Italian exchange where the liquidity is completely separated which is no use at all.

Exactly right mate

I could buy a gun and shoot dead 10 people, easy as pie. However, if I wanted to place $50 on a NFL match, them I'm in danger of being corrputed!

The laws are breathtaking, totally farcical

I did a presentation in the US a few years ago where I questioned their stance on gambling when the US produced just about every flavour of porn possible and marketed in extensively around the world and made sure it was easily accessible. Went down like a sack of shit, but that was my intention ;)

I think its a good contest, as to when the first exchange bet is actually placed in the US, and how long they stay open for.

If I was a sportsbook/casino, I would b v v worried, about customers seeing 'true' prices, and have no doubt, vested interests will try all they can, to derail the start date.

Betfair have obviously been planing this for quite some time. I have an idea, they own a racecourse or two (havent checked), but, its clear, each individual racecourse has the right to use an exchange or not .. once its seen to operate, even as a soft opening, it might open some eyes.

I would frame the market, as NO bet placed in 2016, on a US exchange, as fav. Hope I am wrong.

By the same token, once US companies see the business potential for exchanges, it will hopefuly encourage US competition .. That would be real nice.
