Hi, I'm looking for a little advice when it comes to greening up in play on the horses. I've written a program in Guardian that regularly greens up in the trade profit column but it doesn't transfer quickly enough to the left hand column (by the horse's names). I understand about setting a condition on each rule to only fire the bet if it's less than the number I want to green at so the bets stop firing in once my green target is reached. I also have the separate green up rule. I can green up without any problems when the market is relatively calm.
My question is - can I adjust the settings as it's really frustrating to see my green up figure achieved and then be replaced with red numbers everywhere!
I've always assumed that it's do with the "wait number of seconds before rearming figure"? I've tried 1 second to 5 seconds and it either refreshes too quickly or not quickly enough.
Is there an optimum setting or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely? Is it also something to do with the refresh rate, is 500ms recommended or 250ms?
I appreciate in play trading can be quite choppy but I'm getting green for quite a while but cannot make it stick for some reason.
Any advice would be gratefully received!
Many thanks,
Johnny

Ideally you want to be running BA on the fastest possible refresh rate on In-Running markets,

Are you aware of the 2 second delay with in-running bets?

Because of this delay you can sometimes see the green figure you where aiming for flash up - your close trade will be triggered during the 2 seconds it takes to hit the market the price has move back the opposite way, your closing trade will remain at the price it was triggered and only be matched if the price comes back to it.

Now if the close trade has not been matched and your rule now continues to fire further bets into the market what was once momentarily above your profit target can now end up quickly in the red.

Many thanks for getting back to me Dallas.. I wasn't aware of the 2 second delay but that definitely makes sense. I can't think of a way around that! I will set the refresh rate at 250ms instead of 500. As for the "number of seconds before rearming" is there any setting that seems to work best in your opinion?
Cheers,
Johnny

You ll probably find the faster refresh time will make a lot of difference and now your aware of the in-play delay you can also account for this, there is no actual way around the delay, its done by betfair themselves - it does nt matter weather you place a bet via automation, manually or direct on the betfair website every bet incurs the same 2 sec delay In-Running.

Normally i will set my green up to trigger several times (even if its matched soon as it hits the market if the price kept going in the same direction and is now well past the profit point it triggered at the green could be very unbalanced at the odds it was finally matched at) and usually i will have it re-arm either every 1 or 2 secs at the most.

Isn't the In-play delay just 1s for regular bet? 2s when betting using stake below 2 because 2 bets must be placed by bot?

Yes thats exactly right, I should of put up to 2 sec depending on the actual bet/green up amount being placed
