Hi all,
I've just started with BA in the last few weeks. It's an interesting experience so far!
A couple of questions came up yesterday as I was playing about with automation. I found the video that Peter shared on "LTD and close out on a goal" was a useful way to start as it is was easy to follow and allowed for looking at parameters and conditions and combining multiple rules.
Basically the rule as I "adapted" it lays the draw and closes after a suspension OR closes if the loss is >£2
All went fine for the afternoon and then in the evening a couple of strange things happened.
1 - the market suspended and then never came back.
++ I guess that's something that Betfair can do as they wish right? Are there any basic rules on when to "expect" them to do this?
2 - The in-running price that I matched the draw at when closing after suspension (+100 seconds) was 1.03 on one match and 1.26 on the other.
++Is this just that these were weak markets and I was not selective enough with where I tried this out?
Many thanks for any thoughts...
A couple of basics

1. What was the match?
Did it suspend straight after kick off and not return, or was it after a goal was scored?
2. 100 seconds after suspension is fairly quick, so those markets hadn't had time for traders to start populating the markets yet. The automation would have kicked straight in when it saw the loss was greater than £2
What matches were those matches on?

Thank you very much for replying...
The match that went 1.03 for the draw was Perugia v Livorno last night.
I still am not sure why the automated close at £2 didn't kick in - regardless of the goal/suspension situation. (Actually I guess then that my loss was never showing as >£2 since it was a messed up market and then when it got a chance to close it did)....
The suspend match was this one Stuttgart Kickers v Osnabruck (I almost got away with it, but obviously a 90' equaliser did for me).
Thanks again.

Sorry, to answer your question I don't know when it was suspended but I had assumed that it was AFTER the goal was scored.
It could also have been that it went in running and then immediately suspended.
I kept going back to the market and it was just showing SUSPENDED for the full 85 minutes that I checked on it.
Thanks,

So you layed Perugia vs Livorno Draw at 7.55 and then a disastrous back bet of 1.03 went in after Livorno took the lead in the 33rd minute?
It's because it wasn't a match of huge liquidity, and 100 seconds after the suspension wasn't long enough for prices to start re-appearing. Somebody had left a speculative 1.03 lay on the draw with 'keep bets' and because you have a condition which says lock me out for a loss when I'm over £2 down, it just went straight for the 1.03 on offer

Thank you again.
Yes, that's kind of what I had thought must have happened.
Good lesson learnt.
"Liquidity is kind of important"......
Again, appreciate the replies.

Just to add to LeTiss's replies you could also add a "Unsuspened time condition" to your loss rule and set it to "Time since market was unsuspened is greater than 30 secs".
This just delays your rule from firing immediately at the first traded price after the market goes back in-play so will give the chance for the market to reform and settle more before triggering especially on illiquid markets, it can also be added to after a goal has been scored - again this will allow time for the odds to settle and will often get you a few extra ticks

Dallas & Peter have given you good tips on avoiding this pitfall. If a football market has a book percentage over 101%, then there are gaps in the market. If it's a match with very poor liquidity (this match wasn't very poor liquidity) then those gaps may always be there, but in your example it just meant that market hadn't recovered yet from the goal

Thank you all again.
I've got a 100 second delay after suspension, so thought I'd be covered.
The stop loss part of the rule should fire when loss is >£2, regardless of suspension, so I'm not sure what happened in this match...
Seems to have worked fine in others.
I'll have to check logs when back at PC.
