Initially I was drawn to In Play trading - picking a horse which I think will run poorly and placing a Lay Bet before the off and keeping a back bet to match in play for a profit of around £15.
Today I limited myself to Scalping and not touching In Play and I must admit I found this a much more relaxing experience.
So to you more seasoned traders do you have a preference or even mix and match these two systems?

I'd have thought most traders would be happy to play any strategy that they're confident pays its way long term.
If you're more stressed in play it may be you're putting too much emphasis on short term results or staking outside your comfort zone for now. With the speed of inplay markets losing markets are a lot more inevitable than pre off trading, you just need to be zoned in to accept those.
Personnally I'd be stressed trying to pick a runner pre off that'd run bad enough to drift for a £15 win in each race as you'd either be aiming for a high number of ticks or large liability to start with.

As Spreadbetting has said if you can make money from it - do it, the more strings to your bow the better, thats the beauty of trading there is so many angles to approach it from not to mention the large number of sports/markets and everyone will have there favorite mine is pre-race swing trading but if i see opportunities elsewhere i will try and get something from it.
I do however avoid scalping these days, its just a personal thing so the markets that are well suited to this i just skip over or look for other opportunities.

Cheers all.
Dallas - which markets catch your eye from a swing trade perspective?
I've tried predicting swings from hours before the off up to 5 minutes and seem to have the most success (i.e. more than 50%) when WOM seems to point in the right direction for the top 3 runners about 7-8 minutes before the off.
Cheers Captain.

I find uncompetitive races are by far the easiest to read and you often get some v.good swings from these, i never get involved in any market till less than 5mins - often there is under 2-3mins left before i open a positionDuderino wrote:Cheers all.
