Evening,
For the last 5 years I've exclusively used Matched Betting to profit from the Cheltenham Festival - it's not big money to some but I usually made over a grand as a target.
I've moved away from Matched Betting as I was getting fed up of losing bookie accounts and have been learning trading.
Today I tried to swing trade most UK-Irish races as well as using some automation offset with greening on certain favourites as well as sort of Dobing most races too... the end result was minus £14 which was a little depressing...
Thinking of Cheltenham I really need to focus on what pays - for each of the scenarios above I've had some modest success in the past but trying to do too much was my undoing - does anyone have any anecdotal advice as to what to focus on at Cheltenham?
Cheers,
Duder
From Matched Betting to Trading - thinking of Cheltenham
What you wont see is many big swings, because of the volume going through the markets prices will be very steady and slow moving so scalping single ticks or trading within a range is a common approach and you can up the stakes as there usually so stable and you have plenty of time to exit if it goes against you, the problem this causes at Cheltenham is there is so much money its often difficult to get your order filled which is why so many people now use Betdaq to get there orders through much faster.

Hi Duderino
Other, more experienced traders may jump in and say differently but I've been given the impression that trading the big festivals can be a bit of a nightmare; more runners, lack of clear faves (wide open betting), etc etc (although I'm sure these all work in some traders' favour).
It may be easier to start your trading with the smaller, daily races.
I currently match bet as well, but like you I am learning to trade, focussing on Football at the moment as opposed to horses. Good luck!!!!!!
