I'm not sure the electorate realise just how deep the cuts will have to be. I think the chance of drastic cuts is much higher up the agenda now that Greece has turned very nasty. Hopefully the people of Greece will come to realise its tighten your belt or have nothing left. I don't think rioting is really going to solve a budget deficit.

I agree.

And it won't help to persuade the Bundestag to agree to the loans that Greece so desperately needs...

Having analysed companies for many years it's quite common for a new owner of a business to come in and say 'My god what a mess we have been left in'. At that point they dish out all the bad news, write offs, pain etc.

A few years later the finances look a million times better and the new CEO can take credit for the turnaround. I expect Policitics is very likely to follow the same path. The only difference is that they can't write down the value of stock (Governement debt) in this case. So they will have to cut spending and raise taxes and blame the guy that left.

That is, if we don't have a hung parliament!

I bet that, once the country's finances are back on track, the government will continue to waste money on invading countries that are no threat to Britain and frivilous projects like the Millenium Dome!

Maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age... :)

Its been quite a few hours already and the counting hasn't even started.

Firstly we had the BNP on a charm offensive:

Then UKIP tried to steal the headlines doing some aero acrobatics:

Just for a laugh here are some headlines after the counting has finished

'I could Murder an Indian' - Nick Griifin goes for a curry after receiving two votes (his Mum still likes him)!

'Couldn't have done it without you Bob' - Gordon Brown celebrates a Labour landslide victory by thanking Robert Mugabe and his Entourage in assisting with the ballot count

'Dumber and Dumber' - Brown and Cameron 'agree with Nick' so much they voted for him as well

'Harry Hill decides PM' - Harry Hill will referee the fight between the 3 candidates on TV Burp to decide the next PM. Viewers can call 0800 010 2222 44 when they spot the knitted character.

'It's a Con' - Gordon Brown is upset that he cannot claim the next 30 years as a holiday expense

'UKIP Airlines Disaster' - Pilot fails to spot European ash and crashlands.

I just whacked £100 on Conservative Overall Majority at 2.4 after the 1st result

They are down to 1.71 now

Not sure whether to let it run or take a nice profit now

This next result will be very interesting - if the Tories get it the price will come in more if not get out quickly if you can before the price goes out

Great Moves so far and it could go either way (CON or NOMs) - can't understand the Labour majority not trading at 999 at the mo (currently around 120). Now if I was Mr Spike man I look to buy some cash!

You'd be a braver man than me! :)

I think a Labour majority is extremely unlikely, but the electoral system is stacked in Labour's favour, and it's just possible that lots of undecided voters thought 'better then devil you know'...

Rather basic and I may be completley wide of the mark but in England when Cons V Lab then there is a big swing to the cons. More than the 7% needed.

Only one when Cons V Lib which was a Lib hold.

I think this is going to be very close to the 326 mark. Certainly plenty of swing opps.

Is it just me, or is the lag on Betfair at the moment terrible?
