Ok, given how we all know and moan about the shoddy odds and actions of bookmakers .... What would put you off opening one ? i mean isnt it the ultimate edge gamble ? Is it a moral thing or is it not as easy as it seems ? if its not as easy as it seems then why ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as im considering sinking a bit of money into opening a bookie of my own.

Cheers in advance

Especially like to hear from LeTiss as i know he has previous in the industry.

Become the UK's first highstreet bookie only to accept lay bets (of course offer just as bad odds as the regular bookies do for there back odds) ;)

Huge amount of costs and overheads if you are thinking about opening a betting shop. Licensing fees, levy, tv picture rights, staff, shop rents, electricity etc. You would be at a massive disadvantage trying to compete with already established high street firms.

Then you have the problem of trying to attract the right type of punter. If your shop just attracts all the local shrewdies and arbers then you're going to be in trouble before you've even got started.

Are you talking about a betting shop, or simply an online betting company?

A betting shop for tourists, proper old school bookmaker. My mum lives on the Costa Blanca and whenever i go to see her bar owners constantly ask me if i could set up on their premises. Theres ONE about 15 minutes away from where she lives and he's a complete bandit but still does very well. Old guys (and younger ones on holiday) who just want to have a few pints and bets in the bar aren't all that bothered about online betting. Seems its the day out they're after.
