BREAKING NEWS: Somebody in the queue fell over and suffered a graze. Luckily members of the St. John's Ambulance Service were on hand to administer immediate first aid. His injuries are not said to be life-threatening. :)

This isn't the queue for the checkout at Tesco. Of course there have to be exceptions. There are people who have had personal connections to the Queen and there are people who represent large groups of people who wish to pay or be seen to pay their respects.
It seems perfectly reasonable for a former priminister and elected representative of the people of a constuency of the UK or an ambassador of Canada or the cook who served her breakfast most mornings or the piper who woke her each morning or a representative of any of the 500 or so charities she was patron of to be granted priority access.
This is a report by a journalist who has priority access to this and many other events for the general benefit of the wider public who cannot all be there so they can report - and would no doubt complain if such access was not granted.

I'd rather die than join the back of that queue. I've often walked out of shops if there's a queue at the tills.
Yeah me too Derek, this is not not the greatest queue in British history as that would be on the beaches of Dunkirk in May 1940
Indeed so. At least in the queue at Tesco's you're not in peril from Stukas and Messerschmitts while up to your chest in the sea.

Not an uncommon event if my Dad was correct. What was odd was that rushing to the aid of a fainting soldier would have landed those guys in trouble in the past.
Thankfully common sense prevailed.

I hope his face didn't hit the floor - that would be nasty!

I like the way the other guards remained asleep. ;)

They were police rushing to his aid, the guards remained standing.

I'd imagine its protocol. Probably can't leave their station?

Tough soldiers the British, formidable force. I think it would be good for public safety if they deploy armed soldiers to patrol around Westminster, and other key locations. And, obviously Special Forces doing their bit in the background.

It's not protocol. It's military discipline carried to extremes. But it is what is it is. I was a pacifist and despised the armed forces. Age and experience has proved me wrong.
But I would say that I'd hoped that by now we wouldn't need to have a ginourmous security operation to protect people paying respect to someone they evidently feel close to.Thats me being niave I guess.
Anyhow RIP Liz is still the message.

I wandered through Green Park today and looked at the flowers, wasn't expecting to see the Racing post in there: -

As much as I disapprove of having a monarchy, the pageantry is pretty sharp. Apparently, they have to march from one point to another in a precise number of minutes to keep their timetable.

It would take me 50 minutes to run the length of the queue.
