The FA Cup lost it's kudos a long tme ago. I remember United beginning to field teams that could not possibly win. It was a distraction from their prime objectives of the Premier League and Champions League.
The FA Cup used to be the best alternative to winning the league. It's now a 3rd at best competition that the big teams might roll out the big names for the final. But otherwise it's to blood young players or give fading lights a shop window to help get them off the books.
I remember when FA Cup Final dominated my day. And when FA Cup shock results were headline news. C'est la vie!!
There wasn't much magic left when I started following in mid noughties, but the scheduling simply forces teams to prioritize different competitions. If they want the magic back they know what to do. I like to see youngsters get a chance so I like that cups have become the proving grounds for kids instead, but didn't like seeing City farm cups just because they bought 2 strong elevens.

The fact that during this holiday period teams are actually fielding strong lineups shows how bad scheduling is. This time around it allows plenty of time for rest so teams are going all in, as you can see with Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal and others. Players need rhythm too, not just rest.

But it's a systemic issue across football too, basically non-sports people in charge of major sporting decisions, whether it's scheduling or rule changes or VAR etc. Everything gets degraded over time because they don't understand it in the first place.

Missed the first 3 minutes to have a dump - didn't think I'd last until halftime!

BBC One only a second behind BLV.

Arsenal's gesture to play in white as a stand against knife crime is laudable. I believe any sales will go to appropriate charities.

Yes, hopefully that doesn't mean they're fine with other types of crime

I misread that as laughable. :) Agree, London his particularly bad for knife crime, it's almost daily.

(Forum's running very slowly. Kai posted before me and I had to wait another 20 seconds for my post).

(And again when I inserted the above text, but I think I'll leave it there. ;) )

The problem for the big teams now there are just too many games. Both Arsenal and Liverpool are in a title race, both involved in Europe, not to mention the periodic international breaks.
Euros in summer
When do the players have a chance to rest!

New 32-team Club World Cup format in the summer of 2025, then World Cup 2026.

I agree there's to much football a lot of UEFA, FIFA expansions have been detrimental to English Football and diluted what used to be great competitions like the FA Cup & League Cup but clubs and players just follow the money.

The players aren't really complaining about the amount of games they play and probably won't because firstly they'd get absolutely rinsed due to the amount they earn for playing 2-3 games a week and secondly they'd have to take a pay cut and at the end of the day players are as greedy as the clubs.

Didn't realize the new CWC is played during the summer of 2025

Looking forward to it all then!

This AFC v LFC cup tie is really quite.... earthy. Not much elegance but plenty of endeavour. 5.6 for LFC that would be a nice win.

I have no idea how LFC won that game. Battered from the outset. Arteta will have a sleepless night. And I sympathise with him. How could that happen?
