Cracking Quote on Twitter from benarchibald;-

Turkish and Asian groups have stood up to & chased off rioters. Bloody immigrants. Coming over here, defending our boroughs & communities.

From the survey in today's Sun, it appears that most of the community would consent to tougher measures: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ne ... -poll.html

Even if we assume a huge margin of error, the fact that 90% of those surveyed want water cannon to be used suggests that the only way to maintain 'policing by consent' is to use it (contrary to the drivel spouted by the Home Secretary yesterday).

Well done to Mr Cameron for finally agreeing to water cannon, although it should have been used at the first opportunity...

BBC reporter at Highbury Magistrates Court tells BBC 5 live the first person who appeared in the dock this morning was a 31-year-old teacher called Alexis Bailey. She pleaded guilty to being part of the looting of the Richer Sounds store in Croydon.

Unbelievable stuff

Quite an entertaining exchange last night between Michael Gove and Harriet Harperson: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/n ... 560960.stm

I really can't see it being much use though tbh, how often have you seen these gangs stand up to the police - first sign of police and they run off down side streets. The water cannon trucks aren't the most nimble of things.

They are for static crowds not mobile crowds. Hence I don't see them being used unless we start getting stand offs.

I think the most potent weapon will be the rain that is spreading across the country!

Apparently they've been using twitter and phones a lot, some louts say that 'kick off is starting at....' so on and so on, and sure enough, it's literally true, a mob rushes down there, then 'kicks off' through the door of the their target stores. Apparently, many were laughing as they filled their boots with bags of stolen TVs, sportswear, games consoles etc., some passerbys even gleefully joined in.

I notice the cops all rushed off to London (16 000 called in), and that left a vacuum in the other towns, so all the thugs filled their boots there...

Perhaps not, but the softly softly approach used so far has been about as useful as an ashtray on the back of a motorbike!

It's time for tough action, whether it's water cannon, rubber bullets or even live rounds.

It's time to lance the boil!

Exactly.

Meanwhile, you have troops in barracks doing nothing, despite the fact that they have experience of dealing with public disorder, gained in Iraq and Northern Ireland...

It's time to call in the army!

A bit more of this as shown on Sky News's home page (no direct link yet) wouldn't go amiss, hit them a bit harder I say:

THE MOMENT RIOT POLICE TACKLE SUSPECTED LOOTERS
