If you currently have a sizable PC buffer like me, i'm not sure this reads like good news.. unless somehow it's being carried over or I'm not understanding it correctly.

I think BF’s view is; let’s try and make it more enticing for customers who have left and those who earn 20k a year which is a good thing but they’re also charging the higher earners even more to compensate for the lost revenue.

Betfair have just confirmed to me they will add this point to the FAQ's
Does my old buffer not matter now?

In order to transition smoothly onto the Expert Fee, we will reference the last time that you incurred Premium Charge and use your activity since this point in order to calculate your new buffer at the time that the Expert Fee takes effect on 6th Jan 2025.

Well... you know my point - abolish this damn pc entirely! But still thats a good move - more bettors ("buffer" thingy is good for them) and traders, more fish into our Pond.
I'd call it - democratization of pc))!

Obviously great news as it will help a few but I don't see how 80% of people will pay less. Surely the majority of those paying 20% before will still be in the same category and the same for the 40%ers??

£5k was the hurdle for 20% under the old PC.

Also the lifetime limit meant you would eventually all pay at a higher rate.

Just going through it now, it seems if you earn above but close to £100k then you may as well have a couple of months off and get it down to below £100k so you pay only 20% instead of 40%
Be careful, it's the last 52 "active weeks", so you still need to place at least one bet every week during your time off for it to count.

What exactly is an "Active Week"?
An Active Week will be considered as any week where you have at least one settled bet in a market that fully settles in that week."

Wouldn’t really affect me anyway but I imagine it will to some, would be difficult trying to work it out week to week though

I do imagine there’s a lot more really little earners than we think there is

That's to stop all the people who quit cos of PC thinking they can come back with a clean slate and start from £0 and to stop others taking a holiday.

Surely this won't do a lot to increase activity though unless people left their money in their account. The plight of the gambling industry as a whole still remains. Good luck to those who come "flooding back" trying to get money into their accounts to hit these new rates without proving they're Jesus Christ himself with a treasure chest. Same fish, same pond I would say with smaller current players benefitting.

Is there a world where BF could tweak this further in the near future?

Would they be open for more discussion?

for you guys, it does sound a step in the right direction, tho also for BF, too little too late for many i fear. but - still a cause for optimism

So the ‘active week’ clause provides no incentive to people who gave up due to PC actually coming back as they’ll just be on the same rate.

Not sure I get what’ll come of this the more I read into it but hopefully we’ll get a clearer picture early next year when we can compare the volume numbers YoY

Was finally scrapped, bringing joy so deep.

Rejoiced at the news, spreading far and near.
No more deductions, no more dismay,
A wonderful gift, on this festive day.

The markets were buzzing, with trades all around,
As users celebrated, their profits unbound.
No more restrictions, just freedom to play,
A Christmas to remember, in every way.

So here's to Betfair, for making it right,
Bringing joy to our hearts, on this magical night.
A toast to the future, so bright and so fair,
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a great share! 🎄✨
