Many thanks for your kind words.

One of the oncologists that head the multi-disciplinary team just spoke to me at my hospital bedside. He's given me a few more weeks.

Sorry to hear of this really sad news

I was broadly aware of your situation through 3rd parties but it didn't make you post any easier to read

This has been by far and away the best forum I've ever used, but it's finally time to say goodbye now, having been given a matter of weeks to live.

I've made some good friends on this forum which I regret not meeting and also made some of my very best enemies.

You can imagine how hard it was when I was unable to drink water, especially alcohol. But today I didn't give a fuck about that. I just wanted to sit in the 30 degrees and enjoy a refreshing cool fizzy drink. So my advice to anyone is don't take life's pleasures for granted. Next time you have a really nice meal over a glass of wine, savour every bite and sip. :)
I did just that yesterday Derek. Every bite every sip of the wine I savoured. Thanks for your contributions over the years. I will read your old posts now.

You brought so much fun and laughs to this place Del, unusually for me I can't really think of anything to say that even starts to express how sad I am to hear you say what's going on.

Love you buddy. ❤️

It's just awful to receive such a prognosis, Derek.

I've always enjoyed reading your posts on here, and if you feel the desire for chit-chat of either a serious or idle nature, I'm perfectly open to receiving PMs.

Forums are like the matrix where other people are just a username and avatar, we build an image of that person in our heads despite not knowing much about them. In my head you are a guy that found a way to make money from Betfair inbetween driving to the country club in your Range Rover to play golf.

Derek you are certainly the most memorable person from my time on this forum and even though I haven't been active on here for about 3 years I still think about you from time to time, your arguments and entertaining posts. I hope that you can say that you have enjoyed your life outside of here too and pass on to us any life lessons?

Since I returned to the forum (circa 5 years ago), you have been one of the more active memebers. Your posts have brought a great sense of humour to the forum and you were never afraid to speak your mind or even self depracate when you know it would give us a laugh. A proper character shone through without knowing the person behind the words and pics.

I am deeply saddened by your news, but admire your bravery and dignity in posting this, take care fella.

Sad news that your time has come to an end Derek, each of us will all follow you shortly. Thanks for all the interactions throughout the years. The forum relies on people like you to drive it forward and give people advice. Hopefully, you are comfortable and you have passed on all your trading advice to a family member or friend. Enjoy your last few weeks.....

Have been lurking on here for almost 10 years and it has taken this sad news for my first post - all the best Derek.

Am sure there are different circumstances but we had to rush back from our holiday last August as the Mother in Law was given 2 weeks and she is still with us, so you never know 2 weeks may become, 2 months & possibly even longer.

That’s rotten news, Derek. I’ve really missed your posts this year, so much so that I’ve been thinking about you over the last few weeks, wondering where you’d gone, hoping all was well. I’ll keep you in my thoughts a wee bit more now. All the best, pal.

Derek - i sadly suspected that you were otherwise occupied recently. so sorry to hear that you're facing this head-on. From reading the messages prior to mine (which express a huge amount of love, respect and appreciation for your presence here) I can only add my humble thanks for sticking it to the man, wherever you could. you'll be missed, but know that you will endure beyond due to your prodigious input here.

as they say, you're only truly dead once folk stop talking about you. i think in this case, you will be forever young... take care derek, thinking of you.
