Whats the lie? That Trump hasn't conceded? Or it could go right up to the Supreme Court? Just asking.
US Presidential Election 2020
Ah. OK you mean their haven't been sufficient offical declarations of results. I have to agree. It seems the process of counting in a Covid environment is way too slow for the thirst of the media for a story.
Interesting point "thirst for a story" - I wonder how many people have placed a bet on the basis of their thirst for a story. I mean its likely they will win anyway but still it doesn't look good imo.
I was a bit confused as to what the lie is and who's lied!
The president-elect of the United States is the person who conclusively appears to have won a presidential election in the United States but has yet to take office as President.

Its easier for me to post this than try to explain it myself.
Seems a little premature to me, the states haven't been certified, I guess its a little picky on my behalf.
Biden isn't President until Dec 14th. With Trump and Republicans exploring every avennue to overturn the apparent result. Being President elect means naff all. Don't get me wrong, I dislike Trump, and the idea that Democrats have skewed this election is laughable. But the US is the most litigious nation in the world. So I'm holding my breath.Derek27 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 10:13 pmI was a bit confused as to what the lie is and who's lied!

My understanding of what she's saying is that there is no such thing as a president-elect, because a legal challenge can always be lodged between 3rd of November and 21st of January. Trump's legal challenge is not much more serious than a potential legal challenge to any election result where nothing apparently went wrong!jamesg46 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 10:30 pmhttps://youtu.be/aozjr0Xbw1wDerek27 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 10:13 pmI was a bit confused as to what the lie is and who's lied!

But going back to the interview you posted, if I was talking to a lady who tried to speak at exactly the same time I tried to speak, I would immediately shut up and allow her to speak - the newsreader interviewing her fell well below those standards.

You can call it whatever you want - they're just words. But the reality is, Biden has just celebrated a party with fireworks and all his friends and family present, with tens of thousands of people lining the streets for him and millions of well-wishers.greenmark wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 10:41 pmBiden isn't President until Dec 14th. How's Trumps week been. Lost a round of golf, angry and furious about the election result, desperately trying to get funds to challenge the result, going through a mental breakdown, etc.
President-elect is an inappropriate term for Biden, we should just call him president.

But he is not the president until he his sworn in surely ?Derek27 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 11:05 pmYou can call it whatever you want - they're just words. I was being light-hearted, didn't mean it literally. Obama introduced him as the next president before polling day - he's obviously not going to suggest there's a possibility that he might not win.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 11:11 pmBut he is not the president until he his sworn in surely ?Derek27 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 11:05 pmYou can call it whatever you want - they're just words. Biden is effectively running the country and making plans for its future, while Trump's hiding in the White House crying and fantasizing about being president. Unless Trump intends to spend his last two months firing nuclear warheads (like I spent my last week at school setting off fire alarms and extinguishers

It’s an interesting question, given the current situation, who actually has their finger on the button so to speak. Trump or Biden ?Derek27 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 11:40 pmI was being light-hearted, didn't mean it literally. Trump, until noon 21/01/2021. I'm hoping he does nothing more than set off a few fire extinguishers in the White House or gob all over the staircase handrails (another favourite of mine at school), vandalise the toilet in the master bedroom, or perhaps Trader Pat's suggestion:Archery1969 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 11:47 pmIt’s an interesting question, given the current situation, who actually has their finger on the button so to speak. To be honest, I think he's too pre-occupied with his own arse (no pun intended) than international issues now. I doubt he'd care much about them.

Yeah, hopefully he can’t do any real harm in his final days. I think most in uniform would disobey any mad orders and consider them illegal etc.Derek27 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 11:57 pmTrump, until noon 21/01/2021. But I do think Biden is going to have big issues if what’s on his website is true.
Gun control. Most of what he wants todo will not only piss off the 70 million who voted for Trump but also a mega proportion of those who voted for him. That would be a death warrant around his neck.
Of course to the rest of the world they need todo something but it’s unenforceable in the US due to a host of reasons:
- It’s in their constitution. Which can’t be changed unless all 50 states agree.
- Hunting is huge. It’s taught in most schools.
- Guns have been handed down from grandfathers for generations.
- There are undocumented bunkers across the Midwest full of firearms and ammo.
- The gun manufactures employ allot of people, supply allot of law enforcement and the military.
- They banned high capacity magazines in some states with a buy back scheme. Less than 10% handed them in. In Jersey and NYC nobody handed them in.
- As there is no gun registry the authorities don’t know who has what or how many.
- They don’t have enough police or soldiers to search every home for guns plus that would be deemed illegal under the constitution.
- Allot of people live in remote areas with dangerous animals and/or nearest law enforcement over an hour away. Not good if a a mountain lion wants to share your front room or you get a home invasion. People need to protect themselves.
The above is why gun controls would never work. It’s not like the UK, Australia or New Zealand where the government says hand them over and citizens say YES no problemo. In the USA they are more likely to say If you want them then come and take them. Would be utter bloodshed across multiple states.
On that note I think Biden will have serious problems etc.
