long story short, have sadly now joined the rest of the population and lock and remove my keys on every trip.. t'was a golden period tho
When I was 17 I walked the Cleveland Way with my brother, a 95-mile footpath around Yorkshire. We were always behind schedule and often had to knock on doors to ask if there were any bed & breakfast houses in the village. Being Londoners, you can imagine our shock when elderly couples invited us in, gave us tea and biscuits or cake, phoned the local B&Bs and sometimes even gave us a lift!
Where we were from, if you knock on an elderly person's door (old people as we called them then) they'd be more likely to call the police than open it.
