Becks lived in Salford! (A posh part - Worsley!), I remember seeing him and Posh walking the dog many a time!

Jeff ,

I accept your point about Moyes style of football still think he was treated poorly though. Some more history (sorry I am that old). When Don Revie retired at Leeds they replaced him with Brian Clough. He lasted 44 days because the players didn't like his abrupt style. Look what Clough went on to do with Nottingham Forrest. Leeds could have had that success given more patience and standing up to players who were nearing the end of their careers anyway.

In my post I was trying to say that history always shows us what to do but we don't learn. It is important to follow long periods of stability with more stability. Liverpool Shankly and Paisley is a perfect example. Of course a manager can come in and be a great success right away but it's rare and doesn't seem to have happened at Man U ever.

Louis van Gaal is a great manger. He was superb at Ajax in 1995 with a young team. If he gets the job he will need time. He will certainly not tolerate any insubordination. Lets see what happens if van Gaal doesn't get instant success.

I,m with Euler that Man U wont win anything for a few years now. What price would anyone give me on Man U playing in the Championship sometime in the next five years. (Now you all think I'm stupid don't you!)

20 something shots and only 4 on target. Hit the woodwork twice, but really any potential champions should see off such weak opposition.

That was truly astonishing

Only £340k matched at 1.01 on Liverpool - it should have been more, but it reminds me of when Sweden came from 4-0 down against Germany to draw 4-4. The amount matched on 1.01 Germany was fairly poor because even the layers thought there was no value in laying at 1.01

Liverpool have been prone to conceding, that's the title gone then unless City implode. Such a shame.

Finding it hard to shrug that capitulation off from last night, devastated.

Can't believe how much Liverpool (and Gerrard) have missed Jordan Henderson during his suspension. Seriously think Hodgson needs to consider him as a starter in Brazil.

I think City are getting way ahead of themselves (just like Liverpool did). Aston Villa had a good win last week so it will be interesting to see if they can cause a shock. I am not a Liverpool fan btw

Interesting stats from Football Form Labs.

Premier League Final Day Stats – last 15 years

Backing every home team would have given a +6.2% profit over the 150 matches

There have been 34 matches where the home side has been a 2.0-2.5 favourite (Sunderland, West Brom) with those teams winning 56% of matches and the games averaging 3.18 goals.
This would have given home team backers a 21.1% profit and Over 2.5 Goals backers an even better return.

There have been 27 matches where the home side has been 2.5-3.3 (Southampton, Fulham) with those teams winning 41% of matches and the games averaging 2.63 goals. This would have given home team backers a 15.8% profit while backing the draw would also have given a positive return.

There have been 20 matches where the home side has been a 3.3-6.0 underdog (Hull, Norwich) with no particular bias in terms of return. However, these matches averaged 3.20 goals per game with nine having +3.5 goals.
