69 prem players go out of contract on 30th June. Not sure who they are but they obviously won't be able to play after that date.
The other big losers in all this are Betfair and the bookies. A decimated sporting fixture list will play havoc with their bottom line.
Can coronavirus stop Liverpool winning the league???
Don't see player contracts anything other than a minor nuisance at this point, contracts can be extended temporarily but I think most players that are becoming free agents are fringe players anyway.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 1:40 pm69 prem players go out of contract on 30th June. The bookies however I'm pretty sure will survive

The latest reports here in the UK are suggesting mass gathering will be banned by end of next week.Kai wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 2:06 pmDon't see player contracts anything other than a minor nuisance at this point, contracts can be extended temporarily but I think most players that are becoming free agents are fringe players anyway.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 1:40 pm69 prem players go out of contract on 30th June. The bookies however I'm pretty sure will surviveBut I am worried about traders in general, particularly specialists that may not have anything to trade for many months, this sort of falls under the category of extraordinary circumstances and why it's important for traders to have plenty of reserve funds to fall back on if necessary for whatever reason. No proper football for months means a large chunk of my markets just got erased and I may have to divert much more attention elsewhere, as a trader I hope those markets are eventually played out. Most footy traders are in the same boat, besides perhaps Psychoff who specializes the Turkish league which is looking good so far. I hope the racing markets stay unaffected.
Its being said if they do its not so much because of limiting the spread of the virus but more to free up vital resourses like medical and first aiders etc and transport links to and from places.
Thanks Dallas, seen some of the reports myself but unlike with football I'm still lowkey hopeful they can find a workaround right up until the "peak". Seen the last BJ presser live and been monitoring the UK situation as well, since one of my younger brothers lives there in the north and EPL are still my main markets.Dallas wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 2:43 pmThe latest reports here in the UK are suggesting mass gathering will be banned by end of next week.

Why is football so obsessed with the season finishing in May? Why not continue from where we left off?
Many European leagues, such as Ireland, Sweden and Norway operate different fixture scheduling
Also FIFA have moved the Qatar WC, so not everything is set in stone
It appears the loudest voices for voiding the season are coming from clubs like West Ham and Tottenham........oh what a surprise.......it's the teams who have had disappointing seasons

What happens when teams have not all played the same number of games? They could re-jig the leagues based on average points per game.

Whichever scenario is used, someone is gonna get butt hurt.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 9:21 amWhat happens when teams have not all played the same number of games? They could re-jig the leagues based on average points per game.
In general, the league table is a true reflection of the state of play, so 75%+ of the season is a fair marker, maybe 80% next time.
I'm afraid this shows just how deeply money has destroyed football
In the horrendous winter of 1963, the Champions Everton only played 2 matches between 22nd Dec and 9th March. The season was extended for 6 weeks to complete the fixtures. Why is that so impossible today?

Many a year teams have had a decent spurt to avoid relegation/achieve promotion with less than 25% of games to play. If a match is abandoned with 25% left we don't accept the current score as final.wearthefoxhat wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 10:37 amWhichever scenario is used, someone is gonna get butt hurt.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 9:21 amWhat happens when teams have not all played the same number of games? … and the 3rd round of the FA cup scheduled for 5th Jan wasn't completed until Middlesbrough beat Blackburn Rovers 3-1 in a replay on 11 March!

There is quite a bit of doubt being cast on this online. Apparently there is no rule to say that 'if three quarters of the campaign have been played, the league can end the season as it stands'.
I understand the only rule regarding the final standings is rule C.11. in the Premier League handbook (I've not researched it) which states "The Club which is at the top of the table at the end of the Season shall be the League Champions." But the handbook does not give a definitive end to the league season, implying the organisation decides when it ends unless they take a position of no more games will be played in the 2019/20 season as being the end of season. But without a "75%" parameter why not after 10 games if no more games are played in a particular season. The fairest thing would be to award it to Liverpool but maybe ManCity would want to give more money to their lawyers! Could be like trading a Stewards' Enquiry!

The problem is this is absolutely unprecedented. We've had serious delays before, like the 3 month shutdown due to bad weather in 1963, but they always knew the snow and ice would be gone by spring. With coronavirus they have no idea how long it will last
