McDonald's closing at face value can seem as a good thing, maybe it will promote some healthy eating, I'm sure many people will make a joke of it somehow... when you take a layer off of the face value then this is a massive deal, they're pretty much a Global franchise, employing many more people than I dont want to know. Imagine carrying a liability of someone claiming they contracted the virus at one of their franchises.. that in mind where does that leave supermarkets, they're just as vulnerable, the Goverment somehow needs to protect them from such claims or we may end up biting that hand that feeds us.
I don't think there is any realistic chance of successfully suing for passing on a cold.
Fair point. Unless you believe the UK has turned its back on the US litigious mentality.
Those legal eagles have a knack of twisting common sense.
These are strange times. And has been pointed out, as a nation we are displaying the best and worst of human behaviour.

A bad thing about being a trader at this time is familiarity with cumulative growth and how readily we calculate the figures.
So true. And seeing people ignoring it is so painful.
I'm 99% sure I heard Johnson or another one of the politicians say a couple of weeks ago that containing the virus wouldn't be an issue because 1 person ONLY infects 2. Obviously he did not pass maths at school

Given what happened today in the UK then I think a complete lockdown is coming within the next 48 hours.

Hopefully not but there does seem to be allot of stupid people out there. Probably the same ones stock piling food and other essentials.

Probably reading too much into this.
Just noticed last Sunday and today recorded a significant dip in the increase in confirmed cases, but sadly no such fall in the death rate.

Should be a lag in changes, between infection and death to account for the sickness period.

Well, that's massively depressing. Then again this forum is the direct opposite of such stupidity, so there are lagoons of sanity out there.
I can absolutely confirm this. Our forum is full of people that understand risk, that's the biggest difference vs the rest of the country.

I'm in Southern Europe since November and almost 90% of the population on every country around started taking this really serious since approximately 11th March, the day WHO officially declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.

Since then, UK is seen as completely suicidal. First, the tactics about herd immunity as a first weapon. Then, the tactics step back. And now, with almost 2 weeks since the WHO statement and Italy with almost 1,000 dead bodies per day, brits looking so relaxed and not taking this as a real and deadly threat leaves people completely astonished.

Look, Europe is not looking at the UK with the usual "oh, they're always so full of themselves" kind of spirit as it happens so many times, they are really scared about what might happen in the UK. Because with earlier and even more strict measures + the mental shift in collective threat perception, they're already struggling to fight this problem.

Based on big states and big economies, right now, only Brazil with his utterly ignorant and unprepared president is seen taking this even worse than the UK. That says a lot, I guess.

It's really soon to take any conclusions and time will tell who can save more lives and give the best support to his citizens. But at scale, the pace and strategy will naturally make a huge difference, and right now the UK is not seen outside as a good example to follow.

It seems to me, with the large groups going to the beach and resisting the best advice, they WANT to get the virus on purpose. They think they will survive, become immune, and carry on. This would more likely be a certain age group who don't give a shite about their own families or others around them....(This is our future)

No amount of common sense, stats, reasoning will get through.

So a LOCKDOWN is now the only way.

I'm a next door to Brit with a funny accent, for those that don't know me I'm Dublin_Flyer, from Dublin obviously. I used to post quite often on the forum and then I had and lost a baby so I'm not much of a frequenter these days. However I feel I must speak out on the extent of the crisis as it still doesn't seem to have clicked with many in the UK, from the government down.

Covid-19 doesn't give a crap about your race, financial status, or social background. The dry cough develops into a constant cough until your body is just too tired to cough any more. By that stage your lungs are pretty much covered with a sticky mouldy plaque you can't cough up. If you've ever met someone with cystic fibrosis and seen them coughing and beating their chest to try get air, it's like that, only it doesn't stop.

I watched the Supreme at Chelt with a combination of anticipation and bewilderment as thousands pushed together shouting at the off. A James Bond villian wouldn't even think of passing around a virus by close person encounters with people screaming, shouting, crying, and spit particles flying in such close quarters. It's such a perfect combination of ways to transmit an infection that James Bond himself would be able to do SFA to stop it. Yet Chelt was still allowed go ahead. The first Irish case connected with Cheltenham was confirmed this weekend, I'm sure it won't be the last.

Don't panic and buy toilet roll, it's a psychological thing because it's bulky so peoples brains associate it with necessity, bigger is better, so if I have more I win. No, you just die with a clean shiny butthole!

It's gonna get a lot worse before it gets better folks. Keep your spirits up, take the dog for an extra walk a day or do some circuits and try get that figure you had in your 20's back :o Do some online courses so you can figure out your own automation in excel and figure out how Dallas does it :D If you're shit out of luck and lost a job over it, check local supermarkets for jobs, lots are hiring because they're overwhelmed. A job is a job is a job.

Mind yourself, mind your family. If someone is p1ssing you off online, just let it go, take a walk or watch funny videos on youtube, don't try be a keyboard warrior and 1up them, it achieves nothing.

We'll get through this folks.

Much Love

Crazy to think that if you are irresponsible about this you are potentially responsible for lots of deaths. I'm spending all day inside and trying to get my screentime on Irish and Australian racing

Seeing lots of friction being created by people going out on social media etc. I live across the road from the beach, and going out for a walk towards sunset means theres no people within a big distance from me, unlike the massively packed areas I've saw in some photos

Interesting - my wife never tells me how much she paid for the endless shoes and bags she comes back with but she does tell me how much she saved.

This virus has to have been one of the fastest and most infectious we have ever seen spread.
Only to now be dwarfed by greed and now stupidity
