someone was confident in muteela at beverly at 3pm. Anyone notice the decent back bet well before the off that sent the odds flying out?

In NH racing a horse is given every opportunity to race. If they are called in by the starter and form a line, albeit a skewed line, they are deemed as 'under starter's orders'. If one decides not to move then he is declared a runner even if he doesn't move a yard. The odds in running will be traded because some people have no pictures, BOTS will be trading without the knowledge of the refused horse and as Euler pointed out there will be some cross-matching.hgodden wrote:If (I don't know the situation with the horse) it was clearly not going to be counted as a runner then it wouldn't go to 1000 IP. If betfair voided bets on it and it went to 1000 IP (say having been 8.0 before that) then there would be a deduction to every other odds matched IP which would cause carnage if you think about it and would ruin any cross matching type bots. Maybe that's what happened, I don't know, didn't see the race.steven1976 wrote:Golan Way at Southwell refused to run but why not at 1000? Very strange. It didn't even run but for the majority of the race the odds traded.
If the horse doesn't make a part of the line the starter's assistant will often be seen flapping like a demented swan trying to hurry the horse along. If it looks like he will not join the others and has had a few chances, the starter will often shout 'take him away' and he is then NOT under starter's orders and will be declared a non-runner. If a new market can be formed there will be no reduction but so close to the start it is more likely a reduction will occur based on the price of the non-runner.
While it doesn't happen so often on the flat because of the stall, it does still happen. If a horse loads but then decides to stay snugly inside the stall when they open, it will be declared a runner as once again it came under starter's orders.
This year in the Grand Cock-up errrmm National, Battle Group went with the others at the start but the starter in his infinite wisdom called a false start, claiming it wasn't time. The fact it was some 90s beyond post time seemed irrelevant to him. Personally I think he was having a nap! Battle Group refused to race second time up!
The high profile one I can remember in recent times is Sariska. She refused to race in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks, staying in the stalls when 85/40fav and in her next race in the Group 1 Prix Vermeille at Longchamp.
Bookies (not Betfair) will often refund bets on these horses as it is a rare occurrence.
I found this video of a horse staying in the stalls Not today thank you

I know liquidity was really poor on this ausy race with only 12K traded but get some funny graphs at times. All 3 from the same race preoff.

Saw the 2nd one, a back bet came in quite late and quickly pushed out the price. Went on to win I think if its the same race I'm thinking of.
