I know the Betfair ecosystem really well.

Most professional traders win money from punters, system followers and yes, to a much smaller extent newbies. But it's much less than you imagine on the latter as, unless they go on tilt, they are much better than the former group.

If you make the effort to get yourself set up correctly, get some good advice then you are on first base. But the journey to true trading is a tricky one and success is not guaranteed.

That's why this forum feels different to others, it's the cold hard reality of really professional trading. All experienced traders bear the scars of losses up and down their P&L and the hard battle to get profitable, then consistently profitable. I will always take my hat off to those that work hard to achieve that.

I've monitored other forums and notice that those that make money directly on in-directly from their posters, tend to sugar coat things. I guess this as they have a commercial incentive to keep people around and revenue earning for as long as possible. That makes everything feel nice, but is nigh on useless from the reality of trading.

I realise people will fall out now and again, but it's almost impossible to have public debate nowadays and that not happen. But ultimately we are all here for the same reason and I really value the contribution from experienced members. Ultimately you can't force people to understand a comment that comes from years of experience compressed into a paragraph.

Maybe we should create a discussion area called "Beer Talk" as a sub category to General Discussion.
That works for me
Signe me up
I have a feeling it would be dominated by you, Derek & me  all the other folk are too sane.
Yeah I'm too young for beer.

Bet angel please look into my claim and put it to bed did I write the messages or did I get hacked as I'm questioning myself ??

LOL! You're like William Shakesbeer: "To be, or not to be, that is the question..."

But seriously, people, don't trade/bet while being drunk. There are no "Drunken Master", only "Drunken Losers".

Being a relative newbie I can understand why beermonster feels like he does, and I've felt the same many times over the last 8months, people have told me things like "Give Up then!" in response to my frustrations, and that can really grate... But with any forum you will get a huge variance of responses, and you have to just ignore some stuff. This is a virtual place, and without that in-person communication you can read messages totally wrong, i've done it many times, same at work in the current climate as well.
My biggest grate, is people seem to keep insinuating i'm not putting the "effort" in, I believe I am! You may notice recently i've posted messages at 1am about a new bot updates... this again is because people can't really see what effort I am putting in, all they see is msgs and results. They have no idea of what kind of person I am, as this is obviously virtual and the view people have of me is simply the view I portray....... :D

One bit of advice I give people on the brink of jacking it all, is concentrate on what you know

There was a time early doors when I was totally bored of this. I hate Horse Racing, I have zero interest in the sport. I found trading on horses was killing me, I was just getting battered

However, I'm an anorak when it comes to football. I could tell you most stats on team form and histories off the top of my head
I decided to only trade football for a while, as I reckoned the market and bookmakers price setters didn't have any greater knowledge than me
I could see what I perceived as value, and what I thought would move in price

It transformed me. i started making greens. Then they became regular, then they became bigger
It was then that I started dabbling in other sports again, once my confidence has grown

Yeah, totally agree, do what fits you and the time you have, that's why I turned to Automation.
